As each Givenchy collection drops, creative director Mr Matthew M Williams continues to hit up exciting talent to work with. For SS22, it’s the turn of Mexico-based artist Chito, who has grabbed the opportunity to showcase just how well his airbrushed graphics translate to oversized T-shirts and sneakers. The duo haven’t stopped there. They’ve also been dabbling in the world of non-fungible tokens, with auction proceeds going to The Ocean Cleanup (at the time of writing, the current highest bid is for the “Finesse Pup” artwork). Intrigued? Scroll down to discover our favourite pieces from the spring/summer 2022 collection.

01.

The modern suit jacket

You could say that the hardware on this structured wool suit jacket is Williams’s spin on New Romantic style. It’s inspired by the love locks couples latch onto bridges in Paris. It’ll look smart with a simple crew-neck T-shirt and the matching trousers. Flouncy ruffles optional.

02.

The tie-dye hoodie

Tie-dye is going nowhere if TikTokers are anything to go by. Givenchy’s oversized hoodie is cut from soft cotton-jersey and cleverly showcases a heart in the pattern. There’s a theme emerging here, isn’t there?

03.

The quilted jacket

Leaving the cosiness of your duvet behind is always tough when winter rolls around and the mornings are cold and dark. This quilted jacket makes it much easier to leave the house. Filled with down for warmth, it’s made from buttery leather in a rich dark brown shade and has a breathable cotton lining, so you won’t feel sticky on your commute.

04.

The logo beanie

Logos don’t have to be bold, brash and flashy, as this beanie deftly demonstrates. It’s knitted from wool in a shade that falls somewhere between army green and olive and has subtle embroidery, front and back, in tonal thread.

05.

The printed sweats

Under Williams’s creative direction, Givenchy’s clothes always come with a rebellious slant – even loungewear. These black and white sweatpants are emblazoned with a graphic barbed wire print. Much like the brand’s slim-cut tailoring, they taper off towards the cuffs for a profile that’s more streamlined than slouchy.

06.

The reusable flask

On board with helping to reduce plastic waste? Make single-use water bottles a thing of the past by switching to a reusable flask. Quite possibly the sleekest and most stylish option on the market, Givenchy’s is constructed from polished steel and has a logo-stamped cap. The detachable leather strap comes in handy when you’re not carrying a backpack or satchel.

07.

The spiked jacket

As well as looking good, the spiked studs that cover this jacket are a great way to get people to give you a bit more space. It could almost pass for a vintage find, thanks to the way the denim is authentically faded. Team it with darker jeans and your favourite sneakers.

08.

The collaborative T-shirt

Williams describes himself as a long-time friend and fan of the Seattle-born artist Chito. One of their joint efforts, this oversized T-shirt, is created using a plant-based dye and sprayed with tag-effect dog graphics.

09.

The arty sneakers

“Coming from creating unique pieces with airbrushed embellishments on rare objects and garments, and now being able to bring them to the world is something special in itself,” Chito says of his work with Givenchy. Part of the collaboration, these sneakers are made from supple white leather and showcase the airbrushed pooch again in black.

10.

The squared Chelsea boots

Call off the search for boots that are smarter than your lace-up combat pair but still have an edge. Givenchy’s take on the classic Chelsea boot is sculptural and squared. They’re detailed with exaggerated pull tabs, elasticated sides for a touch of flexibility and brushed silver hardware.

11.

The silver chain

Jewellery can instantly transform even the oldest T-shirt in your wardrobe. Certain to do just that, this chain has chunky silver-tone links and fastens with the padlock that’s fast becoming a brand signature.

12.

The fuzzy slides

Never imagined yourself to be a fluffy shoe kind of person? Slide your feet into these unbelievably soft shearling slides and you will be converted. Givenchy gets bonus points for the rubber footbeds, which are practical and even look good with socks.
