THE JOURNAL

You’re busy. We get it. You want to stay with it. You want to be on top of the style game. But you don’t have the time to do the heavy lifting, to sift through dozens of new collections and thousands of new arrivals in search of the ones that are worth your attention.
That’s where we come in. Over the past few months, the MR PORTER team has been hard at work. Not only have we recently launched our In America campaign – our biggest project to date – but we’ve also been busy replenishing our shelves with everything you’ll need to take on the coming months in style. To get you started, we’ve curated an edit of six brands that we feel you ought to know about this season. Call it a winter cheat sheet, if you will.
01.
Dries Van Noten

Coming from a family of tailors, you can expect nothing but the best from Belgian designer Mr Dries van Noten. For AW22, he turned his sartorial lens to the aftermath of the pandemic, proposing his own twist on archetypal menswear and combining classic pieces such as double-breasted suit jackets, tailored trousers and bomber jackets with bolder, standout designs that include sequinned trousers, printed quilted suits, crinkled nylon cargos and a fuzzy, pastel-blue coat, which has to be one of our favourites.

LOEWE

You may be familiar with LOEWE as one of the world’s top leatherwork experts – the brand was established back in 1846, making it one of the oldest luxury fashion houses now owned by LVMH. From its name to its logo, everything recalls LOEWE’s leather-focused craftsmanship roots, but since Irish designer Mr Jonathan Anderson joined as creative director back in 2013, its ready-to-wear offering has flown to the top of our Wish Lists, too. This plush statement coat is one of our highlights from the brand’s latest collection.

Acne Studios

Scandinavian style may often be associated with minimalism and sartorial rigour, but Acne Studios’ latest collections prove that it can go big, too – the brand’s name is an acronym for “Ambition to Create Novel Expression”, after all. Its new-season line-up couldn’t be further away from the minimalist aesthetic its native region is known for. Inspired by Sweden’s nomadic communities, the collection is a mash-up of moods and emotions that, pieced together, are representative of the post-pandemic way of life, from literal patchworks to disco sequinned shirts.

AMIRI

AMIRI’s AW22 presentation marked its return to Los Angeles after years showing at Paris Fashion Week, so we had no doubt that its homecoming would show how ingrained the city’s laid-back spirit is in everything Mr Mike Amiri does. From signature deconstructed denim and bandana prints to trucker hats, checked flannels, skate-inspired sneakers detailed with its trademark bone details and a collaboration with artist Mr Wes Lang, AMIRI’s collection was nothing short of an ode to its native LA.

KAPITAL

Japanese brand KAPITAL takes its name from Kojima, Okayama, an area known as Japan’s “denim capital”. The label combines the best of two worlds: it reimagines mid-century Americana classics using traditional production techniques that give its Japanese-made pieces an authentic, handcrafted feel. For AW22, KAPITAL is back on US turf – the line-up is inspired by classic baseball kits and features anything from its take on the baseball shirt to bomber jackets and duffle bags, as well as some of the brand’s signatures including flared trousers, jacquard knits, fringed footwear and plenty more.

Fear of God

In recent years, Mr Jerry Lorenzo’s Fear of God and its Essentials label, have become our port of call for solid wardrobe basics. And we’re not alone. The brands count everyone from Mr Justin Bieber to Messrs Kendrick Lamar and David Beckham among its devotees. Drawing on youth subcultures, Fear of God offers a fresh perspective on modern luxury by way of low-key, everyday staples that are made from the highest quality fabrics and considered down to the smallest detail.
