Seven Pieces From Sacai X Carhartt WIP That We Can’t Wait To Get Our Hands On

Remember when fashion collaborations didn’t exist? Us, neither. Designer partnerships have become something of a predictable occurrence in recent years. But when two of the buzziest names in men’s fashion – Japanese brand Sacai and American workwear powerhouse Carhartt WIP – join forces, you know it’s going to be something that’s worth shouting about.

The highly anticipated joint capsule was first revealed earlier this year at the Japanese brand’s Paris show. Now finally available, it is filled with heavy-duty staples typical of Carhartt’s Michigan workwear origins, which have been reimagined through the deconstructionist design approach that Sacai’s creative director Ms Chitose Abe has become so widely known for.

Whether it’s the utilitarian outerwear, such as canvas parkas and blousons, or the everyday sweats and co-branded accessories, we don’t expect these co-designed pieces to be around for long, so jump on them while you can. We’ve picked seven of our favourites below.

01. The hooded parka

Ready to brave the colder seasons? The thought of it daunts us, too, but this hooded parka will make those brisk mornings something to actively look forward to. It’s made from the workwear brand’s signature sturdy canvas, and trimmed with soft fleece along the hood and hem for added warmth.

02. The belted trousers

Carhartt’s collections are heavily influenced by traditional workwear styles, which means that every style is underscored by a function-first design ethos – and that includes these trousers. For the joint capsule, the classic canvas “tool” pants have been updated with an incorporated buckled belt, which allows you to forgo one yourself.

03. The blouson jacket

Chitose Abe is renowned for her ability to play with fabrics and textures – and this collaborative jacket is a case in point. The combination of canvas, jersey and velvet and the off-centre zip gives it a fun feel.

04. The ribbed sweater

The thought of buying knitwear before mid-September can be unsettling, sure, but prepping your wardrobe for upcoming temperature dips well in advance is a smart move. Don’t mind if we suggest adding this sweater to your rotation – its cosy, heavy handle will make a great winter companion.

05. The everyday hoodie

Carhartt’s first ever slogan was “Honest value for an honest dollar”, and this hoodie sums it up pretty well. Versatile and understated, it’s reinforced with webbing along the placket, which will make it even more durable over the years.

06. The essential T-shirt

A good white T-shirt is the backbone of any stylish wardrobe – or just any wardrobe, for that matter – so this co-branded style is a no-brainer. Plus, it’ll work well with pretty much any other item from the collection.

07. The hybrid overshirt

Refreshed by Abe’s inimitable touch, this signature overshirt is ideal to master transitional dressing in the in-between months. Layer yours over the white T-shirt above (you’re welcome), or beneath a gilet.
