THE JOURNAL

Take the plunge with some new poolwear.
It’s still only April and the first vestiges of sunshine are barely beginning to warm our winter-worn bodies, but the changing weather already has us thinking that we could really do with a poolside break in the not so distant future. The items residing in our What’s New section today clearly feel the same, because this week there has been an influx of rather fine printed swim shorts that have only heightened our cravings for sunnier climes further. You can find them below, paired with a few other things perfect for a spell in the heat.
If you like piña coladas
The collective noun for toucans is a durante, which might not seem particularly relevant, but that’s exactly what is covering this pair of swim shorts from Thorsun, a brand founded by globetrotting traveller Mr George Sotelo. As you’d expect from any garment covered by a durante of toucans, these shorts are rather tropical. They’re also rather practical. They have five pockets and are rendered in multi-coloured shell that will dry within 10 minutes of being out of the pool. Add a little West Coast sensibility to your look with these rose-tinted aviators from Garrett Leight California Optical.
Poolside looks
There are few things more pleasurable than stepping off a plane somewhere warm and getting straight into the holiday spirit with your clothes. What is more poolside appropriate than a pair of Orlebar Brown swim shorts printed with a photograph of a swimming pool? And absolutely nothing says “I’m on holiday” quite like a T-shirt that literally has “Holiday” emblazoned on it, such as this cotton one from the appropriately named Holiday Boileau.
Summer in the city
Generally, swim shorts sit on the casual end of the clothing spectrum, but we think this slim-fitting pair from Incotex could nudge up to the smart end. They’ll look rather elegant with this striped linen shirt from Mr P., should you want a quick pool-to-bar outfit. The shorts are made from a quick-drying shell fabric, so post-pool drippage shouldn’t be a problem, but if you do want to get changed, they come with a waterproof bag that will stop the rest of your things getting wet.
