Motivational tunes to get you through your first day back in the office .
Is there anything more soul-destroying than waking up on a sunny, summer morning and suddenly realising that you have to go back to work? No more lazing by the sea. No more long days getting slowly worse for wear in the burning heat. No more impromptu mid-week all-nighters. Back on the tube. Back on your bike. Back to your desk. Back to reality. But before you burn your suit and quit your day job, we have something that will ease the pain – the MR PORTER Back to Work playlist.
These motivational 47 minutes will cover all the emotions you’re bound to feel at some point today, in sequential order. From feeling “Not Nice” when the alarm clock slaps you awake at 6.00am and wondering “How Do You Do It”, to setting off on public transport to the sounds of Mr Barrington Levy before being surrounded by hordes of similarly grumpy blue faces, a la Mr Kendrick Lamar.
Touching down in the office, you realise everyone’s in the same position, so it’s “All Hands on Deck” before really getting ramped up for some “Work”, courtesy of Jme. After meeting your “BOSS” for a three-hour meeting about company targets, you’re bound to exhale the words “What A Job” – but then you realise it’s better than having “No Job” because how are you going to afford to pay for your next holiday without one?
As the hours drag on and your day job turns into a “Night Job”, you battle against the email tsunami, reminding yourself repeatedly that you’re “Working For It” – “it” being that next breath of freedom. In reality you’re standing at the water cooler texting your colleagues various crumple-faced emojis and the letters “WTF” while gazing longingly at pictures of the inflatable flamingo you left behind on the beach.
You eventually call it a day and congratulate yourself on a “Job Well Done”, safe in the knowledge that your day went a lot better than Mr Andy Samberg’s in “Like A Boss”.
It’s been a hell of a ride, but you’ve made it. Now just keep doing it till next year. Good luck out there, chaps.
