After some unsettling years, you would be forgiven for wanting to get back to basics this festive period. Perhaps you’re yearning to celebrate what really matters – the simple, good stuff such as family, quality time at home and some much needed rest and repair.

We’re of the same philosophy. Forget trips abroad, spending Christmas in Cancun, or dashing around trying to see all our friends. You’ll find us in one of three states: round a dinner table, in front of a fire, or tucked up in bed.

Now that we have set our aims, we must invite our loved ones to get on board. We say: gift the relaxation you want to see this festive season. And so, we look to Polo Ralph Lauren. Our eyes are immediately drawn, then, towards the Fair Isle wool turtleneck. This has no plans for big night out and it isn’t going anywhere near an airport. At a push, it’s meeting the in-laws, and – with a lively approach to a famous design – it’s providing a much-needed icebreaker at the same time.

Or perhaps you prefer a check print and a rollneck. A little dressier, yes, but again, the furthest its going this festive season is dinner with the family around a heaving table. Just because your plans aren’t grand, it doesn’t mean you can’t be centre of attention.

But maybe all this sounds like too much effort and it’s nightwear that we really need. In this case, you can be dressed for bed or a day on the sofa, but you can still go to town.
