THE JOURNAL

“The best thing about Soho,” says Mr Harry Mead, “is the fact that you don’t need to make plans. Whichever direction you go, there’s a good night waiting.” He should know. The founder of new London members’ club The Court has a background in drinks marketing and understands that glamour, debauchery and history permeate every inch of this famous neighbourhood. Over the years, it’s hosted high-flyers and down-and-outs, the famous and the infamous, poets and playwrights, artists and dreamers, all in search of pleasure. Alongside Mr Mead’s hospitality chops, The Court brings together the cocktail talents of Mr Lyan, the artistic curation of Mr Bradley Theodore and floristry by Ms Nikki Tibbles. Here, he gives us a guide to his favourite drinking dens in Soho.

“Anywhere with a button that says Press For Champagne is fine by me,” says Mr Mead. “Bob Bob Ricard is an all-round beautiful place to spend time. So much thought has gone into creating the environment. There’s a reason it has become an institution in such a short space of time [it opened in 2008]. It feels like it’s been open for much longer. It’s already a classic venue. Plus, the food is consistently sensational. Whenever I ask people where they want to go in Soho, it’s top of the list. The booths and the design of the place make it great for sociable groups.”
