April, the so-called cruellest month, seems decidedly kinder this year. After the gruelling weeks we’ve all been through, is there finally some positivity in the air? If the clothes the men of the world are wearing is anything to go by, it certainly seems so. Any sartorial slump the world may have found itself in is well and truly over, as MR PORTER’s best-dressed men of April prove below.

They say you can judge a man by his shoes, but Mr Jeremy O Harris is no loafer, horsebit or otherwise. Indeed, the award-winning playwright has already crammed far more than should be possible into his 31 years on Earth, including the productions “Daddy” and Slave Play, as well as a record-breaking number of Tony nominations. (“It’s like someone tapped a cheat code into a game for me and I’m on, like, level 45,” he told us when we met him last year.) His outfit here, also, is no slouch. Time saved swerving the sock drawer has been invested wisely. It’s difficult to pick out one key piece, but the patchwork trousers take some beating. Although the plush three-quarter-length overcoat, lilac sweater and gold bull pendant on a chain you could use to lock a bike all deserve a best in their particular fields. Together, it’s the sartorial equivalent of pressing up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A and Start.

You know when you see a perfectly curated outfit and you feel like, just for a moment, everything is right in the world? A kind of Goldilocks-esque appreciation of clothes that aren’t too casual or too smart, but perfectly in the middle? No? It takes all sorts for the MR PORTER editorial desk, clearly. Still, there’s an undeniable sense of harmony in the get-up Mr Eddie Redmayne is wearing here on a stroll through NYC while he takes a break from filming upcoming Netflix thriller The Good Nurse. Sure, it’s not a revolutionary outfit – it’s not even particularly head-turning – but from the buttoned-up, ochre-coloured chore jacket to the half-tucked T-shirt, worn-in chinos and Veja sneakers, everything about it is 👌, just right.

One of the big pearl pioneers in the menswear world (not a euphemism, he’s just always wearing pearls), Machine Gun Kelly really went to town with this outfit. No, he really did: this picture is from his 31st birthday celebrations at Delilah in Los Angeles earlier this month, and he clearly dressed for the occasion. Is that a sweater or a disco ball? In any case, it even has studs on the neck that match the rapper’s chunky pearl chain, and he’s wearing it with a pair of twill trousers that have the name of his fifth album – Tickets To My Downfall– printed down the side. Twinkly to be sure, but also clean and collected, and a lesson in how to dress to make sure you are the centre of attention, even when your girlfriend is Ms Megan Fox.

Can you believe it’s been a decade since The Weeknd released his debut mixtape? The game-changing House Of Balloons celebrated its 10th anniversary this March and the man behind it – real name Mr Abel Tesfaye – marked the occasion by commissioning artist Mr Daniel Arsham to rework the cover art for a limited-edition vinyl and merch drop, which included this sleek grey flannel and leather varsity jacket. There’s a lot going on here, so we’ll take you through it: XO is the name of The Weeknd’s brand, the double-A on the right is the logo of Arsham Studio, and the logo on the right forearm is from Roots, the Canadian brand that makes the jackets. They’re incredibly rare now, but if you do manage to get your hands on one, here’s a lesson in how to wear it from the man himself, who keeps it simple with black trousers, 1970s shades and monochrome high-top sneakers by CELINE HOMME.

Gaining entry to iconic Berlin club Berghain is the stuff of legend. So much so that there are strategies available online about charming its legendary gatekeeper and bouncer, Mr Sven Marquardt. In ordinary times, one man who wouldn’t have to worry too much about passing muster is Mr Virgil Abloh and though he was at Berghain this month for a fashion event rather than clubbing (the venue is currently housing exhibitions instead of techno nights), his attire is a helpful guide for those looking to gain future access. Attending the Bottega Veneta show, Abloh wore a baggy black jacket with capacious trousers from the Italian label, while also giving a shout out to his own world with a Louis Vuitton scarf and Off-White sunglasses. Topped off with a vintage hockey jersey (the Hartford Whalers NHL, according to MR PORTER’s very own sports sleuth), the message here is very much go big or go home.

Slowthai, like Abloh above, also attended the Bottega Veneta show at Berghain earlier this month. It was, clearly, the place to be. Channelling The Matrix in a smooth dark-green three-piece all-leather ensemble, featuring a trench coat, shirt and trousers, paired with black Bottega Veneta Chelsea boots and black sunglasses, this was a sartorial update from the British rapper’s usual casual (and often topless) style, and we think it suits him rather well indeed.

How does that saying go again? Oh, yes: “You can take the boy out of ’Straya, but you can’t take the ’Straya out of the boy.” A post-gym Mr Jacob Elordi is holding true to his roots Down Under in this gun-revealing bright white vest (or singlet, in the local lingo) and – bonus – double string of beaded necklaces. Still, it’s the addition of a pair of well-tailored trousers (sorry, “daks”), leather belt and Converse runners that takes this look into a whole new level where, dare we say it, high meets low. We like to think of it as fair dinkum and sophisticated in equal measure.
