Whether it’s the Eiffel Tower sparkling in the background, the Palladium concert hall on Sunset Boulevard or a sandy Malibu beach, it’s safe to say that SAINT LAURENT’s Mr Anthony Vaccarello knows a thing or two about scenic runway shows.
For SS22, the Belgian creative director didn’t disappoint. He headed to Venice and enlisted the artist and filmmaker Mr Doug Aitken to create a futuristic, jungle-inspired installation on Isola della Certosa, which posed a stark contrast to the city’s Renaissance splendour. This mash-up of empty Biennale pavilions and lavish greenery served as the backdrop for the Parisian house’s latest menswear collection, which had all the elements, in Vaccarello’s words, of “a fantasy on a Victorian dark romance”.
From new twists on le smoking to gender-defying jacquard blouses and classic archival references, SAINT LAURENT’s SS22 collection felt as romantic as ever. Here are five of our favourite pieces.
