Summer is the time to wear less. So, it’s ironic that we often put so much more thought into getting dressed. From layers to colour coordination and fabric choices, there are so many aspects to consider – but getting your swimwear right is perhaps the toughest challenge of all.
Briefs or shorts? Printed or plain? Above the knee or mid-thigh? If these are the questions swirling in your mind before hitting the beach, pool or lido, you’ve come to the right place. Bright and brilliant swimmers
Looking to really make a splash this summer? Try a pair of statement swim shorts – bold shades of blue, red, yellow or pink will do the trick. But first, consider your skin tone and preferred length. A blue pair such as CELINE HOMME’s will work best if you’re of a paler complexion or still yet to catch some rays, as will Bottega Veneta’s short-length styles. Meanwhile, brighter designs like Mr P.’s orange trunks or Polo Ralph Lauren’s pink pair will look great on darker complexions.

Low-key-luxury swim shorts
Swimwear is a natural canvas for bold colours and vibrant prints. But if your personal style is on the smarter side of the spectrum then don’t worry – there’s plenty for you, too. Styles such as those from TOM FORD, Loro Piana and beachwear master Orlebar Brown all feature streamlined fits and adjustable waist tabs, a nod to classic tailored trousers. Vacation prints
When temperatures rise and you find yourself on a beach, by a pool or at a lido, the normal rules of public attire no longer apply and you’re free you up to have a little bit of fun. Our advice? The choice of how short is too short is down to you. The sporty side
If you favour a sportier approach to swimwear, the likes of Stone Island, Onia and NN07 should be your port of call. The former is known for its outstanding textile research and development, so it’s no surprise we’re fans of these purple, crinkled-shell swim shorts. Onia’s pair is woven with metallic threads, which give them a cool, reflective sheen. And brands such as True Tribe, CDLP and NN07 use recycled shell or regenerated nylon (Econyl) for a lightweight, quick-drying handle.
