THE JOURNAL

The most wonderful time of the year has (finally) arrived. And while the gift giving and face stuffing that comes along with the holiday season is truly wonderful, it’s a little more miserable when it comes to dressing for near-zero temperatures. Now, we all know the importance of layering and dressing smarter – as in, more cleverly – come winter. But having a couple new duds to up your sartorial ante can certainly help, too. And when it comes to reliable, timeless staples that are designed for longevity (and we wouldn’t want to invest in anything less) we can’t help but think of Mr P.’s latest collection. Here, we’ve picked a few of our favourite cold-weather pieces that’ll see you through the months ahead.
01. The jackets
Whatever the occasion, you’re sure to find a jacket that’s cosy, versatile and stylish in equal measure in Mr P.’s winter and permanent collections. Opt for something lighter, such as a suede bomber jacket. Or for something that’ll help keep you extra warm on chillier days, don’t mind if we suggest these shearling styles – the dark-brown and rich camel hues work well with pretty much any other colour.
02. The knits
Knitwear takes centre stage in our winter wardrobe, so it’s important to invest in the very best. If your style sits on the more classic, understated side and you want full-coverage, a chunky rollneck – particularly this one knitted from a soft blend of alpaca – should be your go-to. Otherwise, consider kicking your off-duty outfits up a notch with a fun twist on the knitted polo shirt, or with a striped zip-up cardigan.
03. The shirt
Whether you wear it solo or over a T-shirt, a casual shirt can instantly elevate a relaxed outfit. Wear this blue half-placket shirt – woven in a subtle herringbone pattern – on its own. Or play with layers and textures by wearing a fine sweater or a knitted T-shirt beneath a monochrome shirt, such as this cotton and cashmere-blend corduroy style, or a checked one.
04. The trousers
When it comes up giving your wardrobe a facelift ahead of winter, trousers are often overlooked. But the right pair can really make an outfit – and we like to think that any style-discerning gentleman should have at least one of these categories in their wardrobe. Sweatpants, for a start: get something that combines style and comfort, as is the case with Mr P.’s virgin wool-blend pair. Then, you’ll need a smart-casual pair, such as straight-leg chinos, and something a little more put-together. Opt for a pair of pleated trousers, preferably in plus corduroy.
05. The boots
Nothing says winter quite like a proper pair of sturdy boots, and Mr P. makes some of our favourites right now. The brand’s latest collection includes a collaboration with outdoor footwear specialist Diemme. It also features everything from smart leather Chelsea boots and commander suede lace-ups, inspired by classic military styles, to sturdy hiking pairs, designed for the city streets and high-altitude trails alike.
