Going, Going, Gone: Our Picks From The Sale

Words by The Daily Team

29 June 2017

The must-buy items from the MR PORTER sale to get your hands on. But you better be quick….

Is it merely coincidence that the words “sale” and “sail” are homonyms? Once the discounts are applied, this particular section of the MR PORTER site is what you might call stormy waters. Are you feeling a bit lost at sea? Need an expert hand on the tiller, perhaps? Or maybe you’re just more used to a less vigorous kind of cruise through life, where you simply lie back and wait for people to bring you nice things such as cocktails, nuts and olives? Any which way, this guide, featuring the Daily Team’s top picks from the sale, should really float your boat. Ha! Get it?

THINK PINK

The current trend for wearing dusty pink looks set to continue well into the summer and into next spring. So now is the time to act, while you can get it all at a very handsome price. We particularly like this 1950s-inspired knitted shirt from Parisian brand Lanvin, which features subtle stripes of the newly stylish colour down its front. If, however, you’re looking to divest yourself of no more than two virtual banknotes, you might want to opt for this checkered pink shirt from Cos, which started off at a reasonable price and now offers an almost absurd amount of bang for your buck.

GO GRAPHIC

This cut-up graphic sweater from Mr Neil Barrett is part of a special capsule collection produced in collaboration with iconic fashion magazine Interview. You don’t need to know that to appreciate that this is the kind of thing Mr Barrett does best. Rendered in a tactile scuba jersey, it’s a cut above your common or garden sweatshirt, and will look particularly sleek paired with these neatly cut drawstring trousers from New York’s Public School.

TOUGHEN UP

Perhaps you’re planning to spend the summer lounging around an ultra-elegant poolside bar. Then again, perhaps you’re going to head outdoors and do some walking, or something a bit more gung-ho. If you find yourself in the second scenario, and are seeking a slightly more rugged look for your summer wardrobe, these Dries Van Noten shorts should fit the bill. They are offered in a light, breathable cotton-linen fabric, but have a bold camouflage print that makes them feel that little bit more intrepid (and that little bit less country club). Their natural partner in crime is a pair of sporty sandals from Suicoke. This pair will be a lot better for stomping around a sun-kissed landscape than your regular flip-flops, take our word for it.
