THE JOURNAL

Whether we’re attending fashion shows, researching stories or bragging (humbly, of course) about an exciting project we’ve got on the boil, we like to put ourselves about a bit in the name of living a stylish life. This week, MR PORTER finds itself in Texas to celebrate the fact that we will be stocking an exclusive Sid Mashburn collection, bringing the Atlanta-based designer’s inimitable American traditionalism with a contemporary feel to you, our MR PORTER customers. Lucky you. As well as various events, including a cocktail party in Dallas, our buying manager will be appearing on Texas television today (Studio 512, KXAN) to discuss some appropriate outfits for hanging out in Austin, all of which you can see and shop below. If you’re here purely for Sid Mashburn, you can view and shop the exclusive collection now. Otherwise, here are three outfits, as suggested by Mr Sam Kershaw.
Austin City Limits festival
We’ve definitely taken notice of the 1990s grunge trend coming back – think Mr Kurt Cobain and Metallica. Mr Mike Amiri in Los Angeles makes amazing clothes inspired by the California rock ’n’ roll culture that defined his youth. This tie-dye T-shirt looks like concert merch. The trend of tying your flannel is back, too, which we love. Pair it with these rag & bone skinny jeans and some Converse sneakers and you’re ready for the ACL music festival.
Formula 1
If you’re going to an F1 race – and, if you’re lucky, that might be the Grand Prix in Austin on 3 November – you might want to bring your A game when it comes to dressing. But you’d be wise to keep things practical, too. Our own brand, Mr P., makes these classic polo shirts, which are perfect for staying cool, but look sharp. And you have to have the right pair of shades. Ray-Ban aviators are great for a day at the race track. Keep the look casual with a pair of white sneakers and jeans.
Date night
We have just launched Sid Mashburn online. It makes stylish tailored clothing that is perfect for a date night in Austin. Both the hopsack jacket and the chambray shirt are great for warm weather because they’ll breathe and keep you cool. The jacket also has a natural wrinkle resistance. Pairing it with these beige jeans feels particularly fresh and ready for autumn to me.
