Happy Eighth Birthday To MR PORTER

Words by The Daily Team

21 February 2019

We go down the memory lane of our young life to share some our achievements.

We don’t often like to make a huge fuss of ourselves here at MR PORTER, but we hope you can allow us a little bit of self-congratulation today, because it’s our eighth birthday this week. Hurray!

Now, we know what you’re thinking. This is not a groundbreaking milestone. It is really rather young in, say, human years, and, yes, there are other men’s lifestyle magazines that have a little bit more history than us. But for an innovating e-commerce site (there we go, patting ourselves on the back again), I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s an anniversary noteworthy for its singularity. It’s also the perfect moment for a bit of self-reflection, and a time to take stock of the things we have achieved since launching back in 2011. Here are just some of them, in numbers.

We’ve collaborated on Mr Matthew Vaughn’s two Kingsman spy films, making sure Eggsy and co are dapper while being deadly.

On 18 February 2011, we received our first order at this time. It was for a Turnbull & Asser tie, a John Smedley sweater and a pair of Incotex chinos.

As of last year, MR PORTER now proudly partners with some of the world’s finest watchmakers. No excuse for being late, then.

That’s a fair bit of paper, a lot of style advice delivered to your hands (and a huge amount of blood, sweat and tears).

80

We have delivered parcels and packages to the majority of the world. That’s a lot of happy customers, from London to Kuala Lumpur.

410

That’s a gargantuan number of trends, restaurant picks, travel advice… and a video of Mr Richard E Grant eating a mince pie whole.

551

After starting off with 80 brands in our roster, we are proud to now stock more of the finest menswear designers from around the world, from the high-end classics to the underground up-and-comers.

2,200

From Patrick Bateman-inspired grooming tips to why Mr Philip Larkin is a secret style icon, we’ve covered a plethora of topics here on The Daily.

25,000

And the award for most sold product in MR PORTER’s history goes to these invisible Falke socks! We’ve sold over 25,000 of them, which means you lot must really like showing off your ankles.

440,418

From sea-salt sprays to gold face masks and rarefied fragrances to weighty shaving sets, we’ve sold a huge number of grooming products. MR PORTER continues to stock the most innovative products on the market.

900,000

At the time of writing, nearly one million of you have bought something from MR PORTER. That’s a lot of stylish men (and some stylish women, too).

2,300,000

We speak to more and more people across YouTube, InstagramFacebook and Twitter every day. A small warning: a side effect of following us may include a more educated sense of style.
