“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall,” said Jordan Baker in The Great Gatsby, which, in the world of style, is usually interpreted as: “it’s time to update our autumn/winter wardrobe staples”. Think: knits, jackets and cosy socks. So, relax, slip into your best woollen gear and browse our new off-duty, luxury street-style additions at MR PORTER.

01. AMI

Every season, Mr Alexandre Mattiussi’s Parisian brand AMI manages to amaze us with fun yet comfortable contemporary pieces. This snug, bold patterned sweater, with jacquard-knitted poppies on grey wool, pairs effortlessly with black corduroy trousers and leather Derby shoes, as shown here. The textured, all-black bottom half artfully complements the sweater and lets the statement knit shine through. Elevate this look with a pendant necklace for the ultimate sweater-weather uniform.

02. SAINT LAURENT

In classic SAINT LAURENT fashion, the AW20 collection gives us an upgrade on the modern monochrome look the brand does so well. Its refined spin on the varsity jacket is largely black with white stripes on the knitted cuffs and neckline while the brand’s name is written on the back in a pleasingly retro Daft Punk-style typeface. Against this totally black ensemble, a pair of fresh white sneakers will really pop. You have exactly eight hours and 54 minutes to think about why you shouldn’t invest in this luxury, minimalist take on the look à la The Breakfast Club.

03. Polo Ralph Lauren

Mr Ralph Lauren famously began his career selling ties from his office drawer in the Empire State Building; by 1968, he had created a full menswear line, with a very distinctive identity. But Polo Ralph Lauren continues to evolve, building on the classic preppy style the brand has made its own. Taken from the latest collection, this (above) is a cool, understated off-duty look that can be employed for all daytime activities. The navy blazer teamed with the long-sleeved tee, blue-washed denim and brown loafers truly captures how to wear a blazer in a relaxed manner.
