MR PORTER quizzes the Oscar-nominated star of Lion and Slumdog Millionaire on a few of his favourite things.
An invitation to join our Style Council is not extended simply because the recipient dresses well. Having a decent tailor on speed dial will certainly help your cause – but we are also interested in how you live your life, and what you have achieved. Given today’s Style Council member, Mr Dev Patel, has carved out a career in the limelight, he does not need much of an introduction. You probably recognise him as the teenager who made his name as Mumbai street kid Jamal Malik in Slumdog Millionaire in 2009. Then there was the romantic comedy box-office hit The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel in 2011. And then, the star turn in the HBO series The Newsroom.
Indeed, Mr Patel has gone from strength to strength since his career-making appearance as an 18 year old, and in the process, he has filled out a little, grown his hair, and started attending fashion shows. He takes pride in picking sharp suits for red-carpet appearances or accepting awards – something he might well be doing on 26 February. His latest role in Lion, which sees him play a young boy separated from his family in India, has secured him an Oscar nomination for Actor In A Supporting Role. So, the time has never been riper for us to unveil him on our Style Council. To learn more about Mr Patel for his profile, we asked him some extremely searching questions, which can you read below. Alternatively, head over to his MR PORTER page to learn more about his global recommendations on where he likes to eat, drink and stay.
