CARTIER
Santos-Dumont Hand-Wound 33.9mm Extra Large 18-Karat Rose Gold, Steel and Alligator Watch, Ref. No. W2SA0017
Mr Louis Cartier created the first version of this watch for his friend Mr Alberto Santos-Dumont back in 1904 - the Brazilian aviator was struggling to read his pocket watch while in the cockpit and so the first purpose-built timepiece was born. Specially designed with an extra large case for clarity, this one has been made in the brand's Swiss atelier from steel with an 18-karat rose gold bezel. The finer details take inspiration from the house's storied French history, like the screws, which are said to be modelled on the Eiffel Tower's supportive legs and the radial layout of the Roman numerals, which mirror Paris' streets and wide boulevards.
