Five Reasons To Wear Officine Generale This Season

Words by Mr Ashley Clarke

Ugh, those Parisians. Walk through Saint-Germain-des-Prés on any given afternoon and everyone will look glorious. Though French style is generally defined by its nonchalantly curated approach, most people in the capital are, somehow, frustratingly well put together. And while being able to turn a rather plain outfit into something achingly stylish is apparently the exclusive preserve of the French, that doesn’t mean you can’t glean a little of that je ne sais quoi magic for yourself.

Case in point: Officine Generale. The brand, founded by Mr Pierre Mahéo, is a deceptively simple brand that manages to distil contemporary French style into clothes that are high-quality and charmingly understated. It’s a refreshing thing to find a brand so consistent and reliable – indeed these are clothes that are impossible not to wear well, and often – and with Mr Mahéo’s AW19 collection landing on MR PORTER, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to highlight our favourites.

The kind of thing that earns a cherished place in one’s wardrobe over the course of many years, this soft suede biker jacket has a deep navy hue and will add a point of textural difference to an autumn outfit.

A Fair Isle sweater is an erudite (and cosy) choice as the mercury starts to dip. This one has been knitted from Shetland wool in Scotland, but retains that Parisian quality of being the kind of thing you can pair with, well, just about anything.

Green corduroy trousers might sound like a wildcard on paper, but these tapered trews are surprisingly easy to wear. Capacious in the thighs, they’re extraordinarily comfortable, and will look the part with a simple white T-shirt.

From the city streets to somewhere a little more bucolic, these boots were made for wearing. Crafted with rubber lug soles and a fine leather lining that will mould to your feet as you wear them, these are shoes that, as well as looking good and being comfortable, are built with longevity in mind.

With the striped charm of a Breton top but the comfort and casualness of a standard T-shirt, this Japanese cotton-jersey number is a reliable go-to for the weekend – whether you find yourself in Paris or not.
