THE JOURNAL

We roundup the hottest new arrivals that feature the colour of the moment – army green – and show you how to style them.
Every Friday and Tuesday, MR PORTER announces a whole host of new arrivals on site for you to peruse at your leisure (although don’t hang around too much – things tend to get snapped up). Not only does this give you the opportunity to shop the latest items from some of your favourite brands, but it also provides an insight into the key trends that labels have invested in this season. Military green, for example, has become a go-to hue for designers recently, and the SS16 collections showcase the shade in all its sartorial splendour. Below are some of our favourite examples of how we can use this tone in our wardrobes to command attention in a fresh and vibrant way.
STAYING POWER
We see this cotton-blend coat from Maison Margiela as a long-term investment. You can wear it now, for example, should the weather become inclement (in the UK this is always a risk, of course, even in “summer”) – but it will also tide you over until autumn when the rain really sets in. It’s also useful if you’re really invested in this military green trend, as it has the appearance of a pared back – yet smart – single-breasted trench coat. Team with some simple black jeans, like these from Nudie Jeans to avoid going full commando.
LIGHT RELIEF
We consider ourselves to have a sunny outlook at MR PORTER, so we mustn’t assume the worse when it comes to the weather. Which is why we’ve also picked out this perfect off-duty summer T-shirt from Sunspel – who positively radiate optimism thanks to the inclusion of “sun” in their brand name. Smiles all round. And Sunspel are somewhat specialists when it comes to the humble T-shirt, having made them for the likes of Mr Daniel Craig. Pair yours with some shorts for the perfect warm-weather wear.
TOUGH LOVE
This sweater from Club Monaco is made from “mercerised cotton”. Now, we’re not about to test this thing in the elements army style, but we do like that it sounds tougher than “cashmere”. And we are reliably informed that it does indeed mean that the fibres are strengthened. How masculine. It is, in reality, a rather light and sophisticated piece, but that won’t stop us feeling that little bit more rugged on our way to lunch. Why not continue the theme with some heavy-duty boots.
