Everyone’s Wearing Bright Orange

Words by Mr Ashley Clarke

16 July 2019

Back in August 2017 we reported that . Perhaps it’s something about summer, but it’s happened again, from Charizard-coloured  to  that are the exact shade of Mr Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange album. You can blame Mr  for the enduring appeal of orange in the streetwear world (it’s the designer’s signature colour), but it’s also taken hold across everything from tailoring to casualwear. Bright orange is a rather bold shade to just throw on with abandon, however, so we’ve pulled together a few photographs of some men we thought wore it particularly well and have distilled some style advice on how you can emulate their looks below.

If orange already sounds appealing and you’ve found yourself humming “she’s working at the pyramid tonight” to yourself after reading the above, then let’s dive straight in. An aggressively orange  is probably the boldest way to follow this trend, but it’s also one of the easiest ones to style. Make like this guy and wear one with a string vest if you’re feeling particularly summery, but a plain white  will work just as well. Note how the  are markedly neutral to temper the blaze of the shirt.

You can tell that the man above thought about this outfit before he put it on, but the clothes are casual enough that it doesn’t look too curated. A bright pair of orange shorts is a good way to bring some brightness into any summer outfit, and you can coordinate with a white tee or  that has orange detailing, such as , or, to keep things clean and preppy, some orange striped .

Orange isn’t just for summer. Or at least, not just for hot summers (ahem, hello from ). This gent’s orange and red  from A-Cold-Wall* brings some jollity to a cool-weather outfit, and with the addition of a neutral sweater underneath, again with a spot of orange co-ordination, it’s a cosily stylish look that will take you through the rest of the year in a colour that we predict will be sticking around for a while.
