THE JOURNAL

Bottega Veneta’s Salon 03 collection oozes optimism. “A sense of individualism and freedom is expressed,” read the show notes. “A celebration of industry, engineering and revolution runs throughout in the form of metal yarn. A focus on technicality and function meets modern, liberated glamour. The manipulation and exaggeration of construction and volume is important.” Lofty words, but what do they mean for the clothes? Big silhouettes and lots (and lots) of eyeball-grabbing colours.
Revived in recent years, the esteemed Italian label has captured the zeitgeist, producing some of fashion’s most covetable pieces and sought-after, cult accessories. His last collection for the house – he announced his departure after Salon 03 was presented in Detroit – was no different. Riffing on the city’s industrial roots and placing a particular emphasis on textiles, the line-up is filled with sportswear and workwear influences and Bottega Veneta’s signature colours. Here are five new pieces that are guaranteed to fly off MR PORTER’s shelves.
01.
The statement jacket

If you’re looking for a stylish way to style out springtime temperature dips, Bottega Veneta’s striped jacket will do the job and boost your mood, too. Made from glossy leather, it’s patterned with alternating orange and swimming pool-hued stripes and is padded for extra warmth.
02.
The V-neck sweater

Few colours are a more recognisable brand signature than Bottega Veneta’s parakeet green. The bright shade was all the rage when it was introduced a few years ago and its enduring presence – this sweater from Salon 03 being the best example – can only mean one thing. Now is (still) the time to wear green.
03.
The everyday jeans

These may seem like ordinary selvedge denim jeans, but take a closer look and you’ll notice Bottega Veneta’s fingerprints all over them. The seams are traced with contrasting stitches in signature frog-green thread, while the pockets are detailed with the label’s ubiquitous triangular emblem.
04.
The sporty Derbies

If you want to dress down your suit, may we suggest Bottega Veneta’s The Tire Derbies? They have tyre-inspired wavy rubber soles finished with green trims and triangular emblems on the lace catchers.
05.
The mini Cassette bag

Despite its diminutive size (who needs to carry more than a phone and AirPods these days anyway?), Bottega Veneta’s Cassette mini bag is one of the best examples of its leatherwork expertise. It’s crafted from thin strips of leather, woven using its intrecciato technique, and fitted with an adjustable shoulder strap so you can carry it cross-body.
