Five Blooming Brilliant Ways To Wear Florals This Summer

Inherently summery, florals patterns and prints are becoming more and more popular as outdated modes of menswear are dismantled. Whether you’re already well-versed in the power of flowers or just dipping your toe in for the first time, here are five excellent ways to work them into your wardrobe them this season.
01.
Try textured fabrics
As the variety of fabrics used in menswear expands, there’s a whole new world of possibilities for you to explore. This silky Gucci shirt is an understated way to wear flowers, with a textured floral pattern woven into the fabric itself on a jacquard loom. It’s no shrinking violet, though, with a blush-pink colour and exaggerated 1970s-style collar that are sure to turn heads.

Go monochrome
By their very nature, floral prints to come in a rainbow of colours, which can make them tricky to match. A failsafe way to avoid clashing is to opt for monochrome patterns, as TOM FORD has in his most recent collection. It’s emblazoned over a decent portion of the range, including backpacks, wallets and, as here, swim shorts.

Ease in with a tee
When we talk about prints, there’s a misconception that they will necessarily dominate an outfit. But motifs and graphics like the one on this Casablanca tee are a less conspicuous way to dabble in them. The collection it belongs to was created to celebrate the flora and fauna of Hawaii, so in many ways, it could be considered the gateway to an aloha shirt. Which brings us to…

Say aloha
The revitalisation of the Hawaiian-style (or aloha) shirt is one of the greatest things to happen to men’s warm-weather style since everyone discovered cropped trousers. SAINT LAURENT’s take is on the punchier side – with bold red blooms and bright blue foliage – so we’d advise paring it back with plain swim shorts or tailored chinos.

Below the belt
Menswear designers have only recently started exploring the potential of wearing prints below the belt. Printed trousers, such as this drawstring pair from Engineered Garments, are a plucky choice, but we have a feeling that we’ll have more than a few takers. If you’re feeling brave enough to sport the tropical pattern head-to-toe, there’s a coordinating blazer to match.
