Feeling your mood slump alongside the atmospheric temperature? Fear not. Incredibly cosy and comforting to wear, shearling coats also have the benefit of adding a rugged edge to your look, which will go some way to disguise your emotional state as the nights draw in this winter. This is a trend that needs some thought, however, because you’ll want to avoid looking like Mr John Motson, or indeed an actual woolly sheep. Luckily though, there are a wide variety of ways to wear shearling this season, given the tactile fabric is available via everyone from Balmain to Berluti. In fact, this season may well mark the first time that there is genuinely a shearling coat out there for every man, whatever his style. Shearling (or sheepskin, as it’s otherwise known) for many might seem like a bit of a bold choice. But the AW16 collections have many subtler options, like this faux-shearling and corduroy piece from record-label-turned-cult-fashion-label Maison Kitsuné – ideal for those who just want to be a bit warmer without making a big sartorial statement. Keep it low-key and play up the vintage vibe by wearing it with A.P.C.’s slim-fit washed-denim jeans. Now over the past few seasons, we’ve all had to comes to terms with the fact that 1970s style is now cool again. It’s taken a bit of time, but we can now say we’re firmly on board with most of the key pieces from the era (minus the flares, obviously), or at least the artfully adapted versions currently on offer.
