The best outerwear to buy now.

Autumn isn’t all blustery weather and impending SAD, it’s also a chance to wear something we’ve dearly missed over the past few months: jackets. A bomber jacket in particular is a non-negotiable component of a man’s wardrobe in 2018, and from wool to leather, there are few things more versatile, longwearing and comfortable than a decent jacket. As luck would have it, a bevy of good ones have just landed on MR PORTER. It’s almost as if our stock was dictated by the weather.

For something on the sporty side, try Golden Bear’s retro-minded wool-blend bomber with leather trims. The brand has been making jackets since the 1920s and over the years has counted everyone from dockworkers to Jefferson Airplane’s members as loyal fans. If you’re less Americana, more Parisian street style, AMI’s boiled-wool jacket comes in an unusual but charming shade of light turquoise, and is cosy enough to take you into the milder end of winter. We suggest pairing it with some neutral-coloured tailored trousers – anything from Studio Nicholson or Officine Générale will work nicely. And, for something classic, there’s Mr P.’s bomber jacket, which is crafted from supple leather that will mould to your frame as you wear it. Note the details: there are ribbed-knit trims to give your silhouette some structure, and the zip-guard has military-style stitching to keep the jacket flat while fastened and avoid any unflattering crumples. So, there you have it. This lot will keep you sharp and comfortable as the weather gets cooler, and look good to the point that we’re almost willing the sun to go in. Almost.
