THE JOURNAL

Jackets that will make you thankful for bad weather.
The warm weather in London is slowly being downgraded. A couple of weeks ago it was unbearable, then tiresome, and now it is officially quite pleasant. This is the result of a dramatic decrease in temperature, and the sweet relief of some rainfall. Which, as well as giving the roads and parks an overdue soak, has inevitably made us think about waterproof coats. An alien concept of late, but they will become increasingly necessary as time inexorably moves us towards autumn.
Today, our What’s New bounty of products has thrown up some excellent contemporary examples of the waterproof coat. No cagoules or wind-cheaters here. No: instead, we have the likes of the Off-White anorak, which, as you might expect from your favourite streetwear designer injects a bit of humour into the practical business of repelling water. Look at the back to see what we mean. Elsewhere, we invite you to check out Y-3’s version of a quilted shell jacket. Well-known for its creativity, this cult streetwear brand knows a thing or two about style and performance. The results? A reversible, logo-detailed coat (turn it inside out to see the brand’s emblems) that is more than a touch oversized, and has elasticated cuffs.
Finally, if you’d rather something slightly more conventional, look no further than Stone Island. Arguably the first cult sportswear brand, they represent the sober choice in this trio with their quilted nylon down jacket. It may not protect you from a monsoon – but you’ll look damn good in drizzle. Just ask Mr Pep Guardiola.
Right as rain
