THE JOURNAL

I’m headed to Miami for a long weekend of birthday celebrations and guaranteed sunshine with friends. It’s essentially going to be a succession of sunbathing, sightseeing, dinners and nights out. Intense, but fun. I’m taking only carry-on luggage so it’s all about packing essential, versatile pieces that can see me through the trip. Here are the items I can’t leave home without.
The swim shorts
I replaced all my underwear with CDLP earlier this year because of the perfect fit, silky-soft fabric and understated style, so I was delighted when MR PORTER stocked the brand’s swim shorts, too. I’ve always preferred a shorter length short and the petrol-green colour will complement a tan nicely.
The wash bag
A good wash bag is a travel essential. This one from Bottega Veneta is made from the brand’s signature butter-soft intrecciato leather and is the perfect size for keeping all my products (read: a small shop’s worth) organised.
The sunglasses
Each of EYEVAN 7285’s sunglasses are crafted by artisans in Japan, and it’s one of my go-to brands for eyewear. I like the vintage-inspired round shape of this pair – they’ll suit square-shaped faces best.
The skincare
I’ve been using Dr. Jackson’s 01 Skin Day cream for years. I particularly like the brand’s dedication to producing natural products using plant-derived extracts. This one is also SPF 20, which is ideal for days in the sun.
The shirt
The key to packing light for any trip is having a few pieces that can take you from day to night. This shirt by MAN 1924 is a holiday staple because it can be worn casually during the day when untucked with the cuffs rolled up, but will look just as good smartened up under a blazer for dinner. The fact that it’s made from an impossibly-soft cotton-silk blend is just a bonus.
