Five Ways To Work Corduroy Into Your Wardrobe

No, we’re still not over our corduroy obsession. And who can really blame us? Less ostentatious than velvet, its closest sartorial relative, and easier look after, it also lends a vaguely 1970s air to your wardrobe. Which is never a bad thing as far as we’re concerned. Plus, it’s still fairly nippy out there and corduroy’s soft wales make it a warmer fabric than most. Sold? Great – here are five easy ways to make it work for you.
01.
The shirt
Fresh from our latest Mr P. drop, this needlecord shirt is a nice change of pace if you’re a habitual button-down wearer. (Don’t worry, it won’t hurt, the “needle” part just means each “wale” of cord is thinner than most.) The bang-on-trend pink shade will also see you through to spring.

The trucker jacket
We’re not ones to mess with a classic, but then again, we’re also not ones to argue with Mr Tom Ford. His green cord jacket is an update to the traditional trucker and, as such, pairs nicely with workaday chinos and jeans as well as tailored trousers. Please note: not suitable for actual trucking.

The blazer
Corduroy suiting is back in a big way (address your thank-you cards to Messrs Timothée Chalamet and Chris Evans). The secret to not looking like a substitute teacher while wearing one, however, lies in the combination of fit and fabric: this blazer by Acne Studios is made from wide-waled corduroy so it feels altogether more modern. The overshirt
A key piece in your layering arsenal, an overshirt is always a handy thing to have around, particularly on chillier days. LOEWE’s is made from thick cord, so it’s warmer than your standard fare and the oversized fit means it can be thrown on top of sweatshirts. Handy, right?

The trousers
Denim, though inherently practical, isn’t the warmest fabric to don in deepest winter. Swap out your jeans, and opt instead for a cosier pair of cord trousers. These ones from our own label Mr P. are tailored with pleats so they’re a little comfier in the waist region, too.
