THE JOURNAL

Dress up your street-style looks with this new-to-us Swedish brand.
Streetwear is all well and good, but its proliferation over the past few years has meant that some of it has started to look uninspiringly similar. If you’re looking for an antidote to that, meet Très Bien. The menswear brand was founded in Sweden in 2006 out of the retail space of the same name, and alongside brands such as Acne Studios and Our Legacy, it rode – and gave momentum to – a wave of design talent coming out of Scandinavia at the time. Still, it’s come into its own in the current oversaturated streetwear climate because of its knack for elevating streetwear to something a little more sophisticated and considered.
Take its nylon-twill Harrington jacket – the bright-blue zips bring a streetwise feel, but the houndstooth print is reassuringly rooted in the more traditional side of menswear. It’s contemporary but versatile, and a trusty thing to have in your wardrobe. The brand’s pièce de résistance, however, is the eyeball-grabbing orange puffer jacket. It’s the result of a collaboration with Crescent Down Works, a Seattle-based family enterprise that has been hand-crafting down outwear since 1974. Combine that technical expertise with Très Bien’s Scandi-flavoured flair for up-to-the-minute fashion and, well, this is a damn good coat. It’s made from nylon, is squashed full of down, and has a detachable hood and drawstring hem so you can customise its shape. It’ll work well with the brand’s Carpenter wool trousers, which are satisfyingly 1990s in shape, and while you might be in danger of winning “best pumpkin costume” if you don the coat on Halloween, we think it’ll look pretty cool for the rest of the year, too.
Very good
