Everything you need to help you switch into relaxation mode.
It’s not just the days that are getting longer – it’s entire weekends. OK, ignore the one a few weeks ago when we lost an hour and instead look forward to the coming one that boasts a whole extra two days in the UK. That’s a 100 per cent return on your weekend, which we’ll happily trade for the 2.083 per cent hit we took last month. Fingers crossed this is an indication of the way the market is going; we’re buying into weekends bigtime, in the hope that their stock expands further. And you should invest in weekends, too. An effortless-looking off-duty wardrobe can ironically take a lot of effort, more so with a bonus 48 hours to fill, during at least some of which you might even be expected to be clothed. But spend a bit of time and money getting it right and you’ll reap the benefits. Here’s one such outfit that we think will stand you in good stead for a double-length weekend – now sit back and watch the proceeds of your outlay roll in.

You’re not in the office and yet we’re asking you to wear a shirt – what’s up? Hear us out: this one stands out from your everyday pieces. Firstly, it’s made of linen. This breezy material might be out of step with the overzealous air-conditioning unit they’ve placed above your desk at work, but comes into its own during a stretched-out alfresco brunch on a lazy, sunny day off. Now dig a little deeper: the cutaway collar is actively repelled by even the notion of a tie, and the mother-of-pearl buttons are radiant in the exact same way a miserable Tuesday post-lunch meeting is not. Need more convincing that the OOO bounce-back message is well and truly switched on? The mirrored lenses of these Illesteva sunglasses should reflect your present commitment to your job. (You could be asleep behind there and no one would ever know.)

If anyone knows how to make the most of the weekend, it’s Italians. They even have two names for the concept: the disappointingly Anglicised “il weekend” and “fine settimana”, which is far more satisfying. Fine settimana sounds like we’re getting settled in for some proper time off, just as you should be. Brought into existence in Italy, these chinos by Barena know the score: they’re crafted from stretch-cotton twill, so won’t merely set you up with a pleasingly relaxed gait, they’ll ease you into your free time and even be a little forgiving should you choose to indulge at that aforementioned brunch. If you can bring yourself to bend down that far, these are asking – nay, demanding – to be worn elegantly rolled up at the end, with your feet slipped into a pair of espadrilles and a vast expanse of naked ankle in between. Now do that Italian hand gesture – you know the one. Bellissimo.
The accessories
So you’ve followed the white rabbit to the very depths of the weekend rabbit hole. Embrace it: make it yours. Swap out the timepiece – the very concept of time should be irrelevant to you by now – and slap a bracelet around your wrist instead. If during the course of the week the closest you get to a large body of water is the office cooler, this one by Miami-based Miansai offers a nautical theme that suggests your workstation is actually the Seven Seas, which is way cooler. As you drift further from the weekday shores, you have a chance to gather your thoughts – maybe you’re even thinking about gathering your belongings the second you do again set foot in your place of employment. If you do, place said belongings in this capacious holdall by Bottega Veneta. And as you go forth into your eternal weekend, it’s supple chocolate leather will age with the same grace as you.
