Haunted by some of the Halloween looks that have presented themselves on your socials over the past seven days? Time for a palate cleanser, then, with our edit of the best-dressed moments of the month, courtesy of men with scarily good style credentials. Of course, it helps that the likes of Messrs Timothée Chalamet and Josh O’Connor have an abundance of red carpets to walk down and show off that style on. October is rich in premieres for award season contenders, which means a walkabout for the most seasoned of best-dressed performers.

Elsewhere, the men on our list demonstrate that you can find inspiration for looking great in smaller moments (a manicure as the way to find your colour palette, anyone?), riff on classic album covers and utilise their expertise as stylist to the stars to great effect. Take it away, guys…

A manicure, once you’ve had the full wash, buff, paint, dry and paint again treatment, takes at least 45 minutes. That’s a lot of thinking time, right there. It’s three quarters of an hour that Mr Joe Jonas used well, presumably utilising his appointment for these baby blue nails to consider what exactly would look great with his just-did digits. It turns out, an eye catching KAWS Seeing/Watching tote bag matched with extremely of the moment blue Vans (the footwear of choice for anyone who’s binged Squid Game) and argyle knitted cardigan do the trick. Add in sunglasses and there is a lot to consider here, but Jonas has clearly spent his slot in the nail salon well.

If you’ve seen the cover of Mr Bob Dylan’s second album, The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan – featuring the troubadour, fresh-faced, brown jacketed and blue jeaned, walking side by side through the West Village with his then-girlfriend Ms Suze Rotolo – you will know what we mean when we say that the above image looks decidedly like an updated version of the picture of Bob Dylan walking side by side with Suze Rotolo, even down to the cobbled Manhattan street. Then again, Mr Dev Hynes has a few things on Dylan. The Clueless/Mr Mobutu Seko-inspired furry hat. The second-hand novel. And the carabiner. Because losing your house keys is never cool.

Mr Josh O’Connor’s turns in God’s Own Country, The Durrells and, most recently, as a troubled Prince Charles in The Crown have seen him garner a shelf’s worth of acting accolades. But his talents on screen are almost matched by the column inches dedicated to his clobber. And as the poster boy of both LOEWE and Bulgari, he’s become one to watch on the red carpet. For his appearance at this month’s Rome Film Festival, he was dressed in a regal look of a different kind – specifically, a bespoke outfit created by LOEWE’s design wunderkind, Mr Jonathan Anderson. And, as we’re sure you’ll agree, the clean-cut, quietly artful ensemble hits the monochrome style nail on the head.

Mr Pharrell Williams is always the coolest guy on the block, no matter where said block is. And he’s elevated it to a whole new level on his recent Venetian visit. From his limited-edition Human Made face mask to his denim blazer-meets-kimono over a tee and gingham shorts, plus, the white socks with shiny white Chanel loafers, the latter customised to say “Pharrell” over the tongue, he’s got his cruise look down. It is polished, while also casual and low-key. But then we didn’t expect anything less from the music (but also fashion and skincare) mogul.

Mr Jenke Ahmed Tailly – or “Le Jenke” to those in the know – is one of the most important celebrity stylists in today’s fashion industry. Having worked with everyone from Ms Naomi Campbell to Mr Kanye West, he has been called Beyoncé’s secret weapon because of his unmatched styling nous when crafting her public image. Unlike his clients, we hear that the man himself usually likes to keep a low profile. However, we couldn’t help including him in our best-dressed list this month thanks to this all-black get-up that he’s expertly finished off with a pair of brightly coloured loafers. It’s subtly sophisticated, with a satisfying hit of personality. Vive Le Jenke!

Although oversized tailoring has been on a distinctly upward trajectory of late, it was Mr Giorgio Armani who first championed the capacious suit back in the 1980s. That sense of louche retrospection was brought into the 21st century by the Italian design maestro for Mr Jack Farthing’s outing on the red carpet at the recent premiere of Spencer at the BFI London Film Festival. The wide-lapel jacket and voluminous pleated trousers have a touch of the bohemian about them, but in typical Armani fashion, still feel polished. And it’s a look that works seamlessly with Farthing’s luscious lockdown mane.

“I’m not bad, I’m just drawn that way,” protests Jessica Rabbit in seminal 1988 live action-animation crossover Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Mr Timothée Chalamet’s approach to dressing seems to be in a similar vein, holding down the “lawful evil” corner of the red-carpet alignment axes. For the London premiere of Dune, which shows all the signs of becoming another seminal piece of filmmaking, the actor, seen here in “Tory power stance”, wore an Alexander McQueen suit with more entry points than Arrakeen Palace. Perhaps it foreshadows the ultimate narrative arc of his messianic character, Paul Atreides. Certainly, it boasts a pocket or two in which to stash some spice. “The bottom line of the Dune trilogy is: beware of heroes,” the space epic’s author, Mr Frank Herbert, once warned. And besides, as Chalamet clearly knows, it’s the villains who have all the style.
