Spring has officially sprung. And, thanks to the lifting of restrictions, frolicking in fields and parks can resume. The problem is the weather might not always be on your side. A coat, however, is too drastic and bulky for this season’s temperamental ways. Sure, it’ll serve you well when the weather takes a turn for the worse, but what do you do with it when the sun peeks out from behind the clouds? Tie it around your waist? There must be a better solution – and there is. Enter the lightweight jacket, fashion’s answer to keeping spring breezes at bay. But where to begin? Here are seven of the best to see you through until summer.

01.
The chore jacket
A true workwear staple, a chore jacket is a solid off-duty or weekend option. This one from Mr P., our in-house label, is made from hard-wearing corduroy and comes in a summer-appropriate off-white shade. You’ll have to take care to avoid messy foods while wearing it, but at least you’ll look damn good.

02.
The blouson jacket
Searching for a smarter alternative to your go-to bomber? A blouson jacket is what you’re after. It’s similar to a bomber jacket, but with a classic collar, which lends it a more tailored appearance. Lemaire’s is made from extra crisp cotton-canvas and is ever-so-slightly cropped – a fit that looks dapper with higher-rise jeans or trousers.

03.
The sporty jacket
Perhaps the most refined take on the high-vis trend we’ve seen yet, this Moncler shell jacket comes in a vivid shade of orange. Only for the brave? Perhaps. But after a year of near hibernation, bolder is better in our book.

04.
The shirt jacket
Shacket or overshirt? Semantics aside, this “slightly thicker than a shirt, but lighter than a jacket” article of clothing is a welcome solution to spring’s fluctuating temperatures. Throw it on over a plain tee or layer it under a denim jacket on breezier days. Speaking of which…

05.
The denim jacket
Tinkering with a classic doesn’t always end well, but in this case AMI PARIS has knocked it out of the park. An update of the traditional denim trucker, this zip-up style has a ribbed trim akin to a varsity jacket. Overall, the vibe is pretty preppy and all the better for it.

06.
The fleece jacket
Once banished to style’s naughty step, the fleece jacket has staged quite the comeback over the past few years. A tribute to 1980s athleticwear, Aries’ graphic version boasts a pattern that wouldn’t look out of place if it were upholstering the seats of a train. Is it ironic? Maybe. Are we here for it? Fully.

07.
The track jacket
The rise of the track jacket has been almost as meteoric as that of the fleece. This teal version from cult Japanese brand Needles owes much to classic shell suits from the 1980s and 1990s in terms of fit and finer details, but the off-kilter butterfly motif brings it up to date.
