Three Ways To Wear Orange This Season

Words by Colin Crummy

9 August 2019

Orange may not be the new black, but this summer it is making something of a scene. It’s not the first time this has happened, nor is it without precedent. Tropicana-soaked hues have been infiltrating the streetwear scene in particular for some time (it’s Yeezy alumnus Mr Heron Preston’s signature colour) and more recently, made the jump into all aspects of menswear, from tailoring to casualwear. It’s a colour that we can’t stop drinking in. The key to wearing orange is to go bold. With this in mind, we present three pieces that are ripe for the picking.

This brilliantly orange graffiti-inspired sweater by Off-White could be designer Mr Virgil Abloh’s two-fingered salute to milder hues. Or it may be a nod to the street art that has inspired him. Either way, the result is a tangerine dream.

If the colour on its own isn’t bold enough for you, this wool fleece jacket from Ambush really ups the ante. Ms Yoon Ahn founded her label to make jewellery for her husband, the rapper Verbal, to wear during his performances. This oversized, logo-embroidered number is nothing if not unsubtle. You have been warned.

Orange is a colour to be seen in, even – or, indeed, especially – if you are on tough terrain. This Arc’teryx backpack is designed for serious climbers and the bright orange ripstop is sure to be visible from afar. It looks great in the pub, too.
