If the A-listers are anything to go by, change is afoot in the world of menswear this summer. Typically a season that ushers in bright hues and look-at-me prints – and encourages the more sartorially timid among us to shimmy out of our comfort zones – this time around it appears to have inspired a more mellow mood altogether. Take a quick scan of all the best-dressed attendees at this month’s blockbuster menswear shows and you’ll find not the splashy aloha shirts and tie-dye tees that one might expect in the midst of a heatwave, but rather chocolate browns, elegant off-whites and – that most summery of shades – black. Those with more maximalist tastes will find little to steal this month, admittedly, but if you’re the sort who practically salivates at the thought of oatmeal-coloured cashmere and luxurious tailoring, then allow these seven immaculately clad men to be your guiding stars for the sunny days ahead.

Mr Jacob Elordi

For men who still worry about where and when to wear shorts, let Mr Jacob Elordi put your mind at rest. Evidently, the Euphoria star isn’t fretting about the “rules”. Indeed, the styling of his Valentino Garvani shorts borders on downright steamy: from the mid-thigh length to the athletic socks, heavy boots and skinny tie, it’s an ensemble that could have been lifted directly from the nightclubs of Berlin. This is a look that says, “Yes, I have a spare cigarette. No, I’m not taking my sunglasses off. And, yes, I know the best place to get a drink at 4.00am in Kreuzberg.”

Mr Deon Hinton

Here’s New York-based photographer, fashion week regular and dewy king Mr Deon Hinton at the Hed Mayner show in Paris rocking a supremely confident look that speaks to a deep understanding of what works – not just in itself, but what works on him. There’s plenty to talk about here. We could mention the relaxed silhouette or the influence of heritage workwear, but what this is really about is colour: the russet and burnt orange complement his skin tone perfectly, leaving that signature peroxide hairdo to act as an accent.

Mr Troye Sivan

Dressed head-to-toe in Prada, Mr Troye Sivan is a perfect example on how to appear overly slouchy while wearing long shorts. The key is to pair them with more elevated pieces, which will help to balance it all out. The brown vest, the sleek belt, the platformed Derby shoes and the sunglasses add some luxurious touches, while the white shorts and scrunched socks bring it back down to earth. It’s all about keeping it nonchalant, but also interesting. The perfect summer’s day outfit if you ask us.

Mr Ben Aldridge

We’ve already written extensively on how the white tank top is all the rage this summer. And while a plethora of celebrities – including Messrs Shawn Mendes and Tom Holland – have demonstrated how the once undergarment is now a rather informal, trendy staple of a stylish man’s summer wardrobe, Mr Ben Aldridge has taken the white tank-top steeze to new heights. Spotted at LOEWE’s show in Paris last month, the 37-year-old English actor paired the branded top with a statement leather overshirt and black trousers, proving that the humble vest can be dressed up, too.

Mr Joseph Lee

From the second he rocked up in Beef, Netflix’s recent oddly meditative series on road rage, sporting a Rapha cycling jersey, we knew we’d get on with George. But what of Mr Joseph Lee, the actor who played him? He, too, is tall and an artist, although his medium is oil paint rather than ceramics. And IRL, the dude also knows how to dress. See him wafting through the AMI PARIS SS24 show, as free-flowing as George, if with a little more structure than one of his sculptures. Not too much structure, mind – his double-breasted blazer and pooling trousers, both by the brand, are joyously insouciant. Shoulders are not just unpadded, but shrugged. However, a formless blob, this outfit isn’t.

Mr Travis Bennett

Not familiar with superstar skater and actor Mr Travis “Taco” Bennett? If you’re a menswear obsessive, all you really need to know is that he hails from the extended Odd Future-verse and thus keeps such stylish company as Mr Steve Lacy and perennial MR PORTER favourite Tyler, the Creator. Much like his mates, his sartorial palette has expanded since the collective’s troublemaking days (a little less LA skatewear, a little more luxe tailoring), as this exquisite silk-tank-and-leather-trouser combo by SAINT LAURENT worn to the fashion’s house’s AW23 presentation proves. Delightfully understated and sure to look just as tasteful decades from now, it’s a reminder that oftentimes sumptuous fabrics and exquisite fit are enough to make a statement on their own.

Mr Kieran Culkin

He may no longer the inhabit the raffish Roman Roy, but it appears Mr Kieran Culkin isn’t quite ready to abandon the costume. Not so much the slick suits and copious hair gel, though – rather the casual, quiet-luxury look that his fictional family famously do so well. At MR PORTER’s summer party in the Hamptons (we’re in key quiet-luxury country, here), he wore an outfit that, to the untrained eye, might appear rather unassuming. But as true connoisseurs will tell you, its hushed tones, classic silhouette and Zegna label could not make it more apposite for the East Egg setting.
