There may be lots of things you want to shed come winter’s end. Those few extra pounds gained in the mid-season slump. The feeling that endless grey days are never going to lift. Then, there are the layers we cosy up in from late autumn to spring. The heavyweight fabrics, the cosy constructions, the many, many tiers. Don’t get us wrong, we love this stuff. Big coats. Thick corduroy. Lots and lots of knits. But there comes a time, usually around about now, when we just want to throw off some layers. It all starts to feel, like winter itself, a little heavy. We want style that feels a little lighter – and that lightens our mood a little, too.
This, obviously, is where spring/summer collections come in – those clever fashion people! It’s the time for a less-is-more style mantra: lighter fabrics, looser constructions, less rules around colour and silhouettes.
These are the general rules of thumb. And then there are the rules by which Versace, the inimitable Italian powerhouse, plays by, and which are unmistakably its own. This is a brand that is unabashedly bold, but understands that occasions demand things dialling up and down. With this approach, there’s freedom to play according to mood and an inherent adaptability to each piece.
Brand cornerstones such as signature print shirts can be paired with a deceptively simple Japanese denim for a more relaxed mood. The vivid patterns can be played with accordingly, contrasted nicely with (some still useful) layering, like a cropped tan leather jacket.
