October presents something of a style paradox for those of us living in the northern hemisphere. On the one hand, we’re chuffed to finally whip out our coats, jackets, knits, scarves and “really start dressing”, as the kids say. On the other, our inclination to make an effort when we leave the house – to leave the house at all, really – tends to wane with every drop in Celsius. Thank goodness, then, that any time we found ourselves veering towards the latter state of mind this past month, another well-dressed celebrity stepped out for a film screening, fashion party or dog walk, reminding us that the trade-off between looking good and staying warm is actually non-existent. Below, we’ve picked out the seven style superstars who have us recommitting our vows to High Fashion this autumn, whatever the weather forecast.

A$AP Rocky

If you were among those who cast lots on the suit going the way of the dodo in 2022, then we’re sorry-not-sorry to report you won’t be cashing in any time soon. At least, that’s unlikely to be the case if the hypebeasts adopt A$AP Rocky’s latest outfit with the same fervour they did his 2019 babushka scarf. For his 34th birthday, the rapper headed out for dinner in a skinny CELINE HOMME pinstripe suit and tie and pulled it off with the same ease that most of us wear pyjamas (the shades certainly didn’t hurt). Above all, we’re just pleased to see that new-dad diaper duty hasn’t knocked the original fashion killa off his A-game.

Mr Zachary Quinto

If there was ever such a thing as the platonic ideal of a sweater-plus-dog combo, this might be it. Behold Mr Zachary Quinto in a cosy, multicoloured dream from Acne Studios, along with light blue jeans, making the case for a low-key yet eye-catching autumn style evolution. Just because you’re wearing a sweater doesn’t mean it has to be beige or black, after all. And if you can find two adorable pooches to cuddle with on the couch this season, all the better.

Mr Eddie Redmayne

The eternally boyish Mr Eddie Redmayne – the man is 40 years old, for goodness sake – was back on the press trail this October in support of his new Netflix movie, The Good Nurse. Which we’re sure is just fantastic, but let’s talk about the clothes for a minute. Here he is on his way to (or from?) a screening in New York City in an attention-grabbing faux-shearling sweater from LOEWE, which he has paired with mid-grey trousers and smart Derby shoes for a look that’s best described as business from the waist down, party up top.

Mr Jeremy O Harris

In this world, one thing is certain: Mr Jeremy O Harris will not let you down with his style choices. From his yellow-caped Met Gala look to his everyday off-duty outfits, the man’s taste is almost as enviable as his talent. A key lesson from this specific outfit: a brightly coloured, perfectly pleated top that’s left unbuttoned to reveal a strand or two of pearls creates a dandyish look that strikes the perfect balance between casual and formal. Pair that with dusty-blue trousers and Bottega Veneta intrecciato-weave mules and you’ll surely be the best-dressed man at any occasion.

Mr Antwaun Sargeant

It takes a good deal of courage to step out in an all-white outfit, not least because it means avoiding any food or drink that is not water. However, art critic and writer Mr Antwaun Sargent appears to pull off this pristine look with ease. The slightly oversized fit and clean lines of his crisp shirt, matching trousers and Western-inspired boots exude the confidence of someone who is not quite ready to pull out the knitwear and overcoats for autumn just yet. And while this look could veer into ghost territory very quickly (it is spooky season, after all), Sargent wisely accessorises with an off-white beanie hat and thick-framed black glasses to add some subtle contrast.

Mr Mark Ronson

In the past month, Mr Mark Ronson has made quite a few headlines. One day, he’s throwing the ultimate party in Florida; another day, he’s in the studio, rumoured to be working on Ms Dua Lipa’s upcoming album. There’s no doubt the man is booked and busy, but what if we told you that he still manages to keep up with the latest fashion collabs – and pull them off with aplomb, too? This adidas x Gucci sweater he wore in New York, perfectly offset with corduroy trousers and white kicks, is a case in point.

Mr Ben Whishaw

Sure, he has played such national pillars as Paddington, Bond boffin Q and – OK, a stretch here – Pingu in Nathan Barley, but are we finally ready to embrace Mr Ben Whishaw as a British icon in himself? We do hope so. Certainly, he has the style down, although the overcoat here could be as much a nod to the bovver boys of the 1960s as a callback to that Peruvian bear. The neatly cropped Barnet Fair, teamed with cuffed denim, sturdy shoes and done-up buttons, suggests as much. Only, what’s he packing in his pockets? Is that… a marmalade sandwich?
