THE JOURNAL

Hands up, who’s excited for Halloween? Anyone? While we imagine that the likeliness of you counting down the days is inversely proportional to your date of birth, we’re here to make the case that this most spooky of holidays is an affair for all ages. Sure, trick or treating may no longer be on the cards, and the prospect of trussing up for a costume party might feel more like a chore past 25, but there’s no reason why you can’t partake in the fun in a more grown-up – and stylish – fashion. Here at MR PORTER, we’re determined to drum up excitement for the occasion in the best way we know how: clothes. Below, a selection of devilishly good pieces that feel fitting for 31 October, albeit with enough mileage to wear well beyond.
01.
The sinister Mastermind World hoodie

Fans of Mastermind World will be well acquainted with the brand’s skull and crossbones-adorned collections, which make the cult Japanese label a no-brainer for the Halloween season. But scroll through its latest offering and you’ll find it’s this printed cotton-jersey hoodie that jumps out at you, thanks to that disarmingly sinister smile.
02.
The skeleton Cartier watch

Deliberating over which timepiece to wear to perfectly round out your Halloween get-up? It can’t be anything but a skeleton. For equal parts elegance and edge, try Cartier’s Santos de Cartier – a hand-wound beauty sitting at just under 40mm that boasts a century-long heritage and maximum heirloom appeal.
03.
The luxe Lemaire balaclava

A serious question: why aren’t you wearing a balaclava? Or, more pertinently, why aren’t you wearing a Lemaire balaclava? This season, the pared-back Parisian brand is making the case for the underrated and unbeatably snug ski accessory as part of your autumn-winter rotation with this ribbed knit creation that includes a blend of merino wool and alpaca.
04.
The Moncler Genius zip-up leather trousers

Moncler’s Genius spinoff sees the Swiss heritage brand collaborate with an array of talented designers, and this time around it’s the turn of Mr Matthew Williams and his gothic-infused 1017 ALYX 9SM line. The result: these straight-leg panelled leather trousers, which pair Moncler’s age-old commitment to haute-level craftmanship with William’s edgy, countercultural tastes and penchant for hefty hardware.
05.
The macabre ERL down jacket

Much like Mastermind World’s Mr Masaaki Homma, ERL founder Mr Eli Russell Linnetz is evidently a fan of a good old skull and crossbones, dotting the motif across a selection of his designs this season. Alongside matching distressed denim shorts and a supersized cotton canvas tote, you’ll find this quilted cotton jacket, which places an insulating layer of down and feathers between the wearer and the outside world.
06.
The punk EÉRA diamond necklace

If you’re on the hunt for punkish jewellery that sits comfortably alongside a seasonally appropriate, Mr Hedi Slimane-style wardrobe of leather, studs and lashings of black, then look no further than Italian-founded label EÉRA. Case in point: this sleek yet weighty Candy necklace, which contrasts black PVD coated charms against diamond-studded white gold.
07.
The moody Jacques Marie Mage sunglasses

Who says shades are solely a summer accessory? Certainly not us. In fact, we can think of no speedier way to infuse your Halloween outfit with an element of mystique than a pair of black-rimmed, smoked-out sunglasses – these D frames by Jacques Marie Mage should do the job nicely.
08.
The fuzzy Rick Owens monster boots

Finally, it would be criminal to curate a roundup of spooky-yet-chic fashion pieces without at least one creation by fashion’s resident lord of darkness. Frankly, you’d do well to pick anything from the Rick Owens wheelhouse, but if we had to narrow it down to just one item, then these fuzzy monster boots in collaboration with goth go-to Dr. Martens earn our ultimate seal of approval.
