If originality is at the top of your criteria when shopping for clothes, KAPITAL should be on your radar. The brand is based in Kojima, a district in Japan famous for its denim production, and creates clothes that are wholly unfettered by the fickle trends and fads that go on in big cities. Inspired by everything from traditional Ainu prints from Hokkaido to the music of Mr Bob Marley, it’s a brand that marches to its own drum.

We’re pleased, then, that KAPITAL is part of MR PORTER’s The Japan Edit, and has created a capsule collection of four pieces just for us. Made up of a shirt and a jacket that each come in two colours, the collection’s USP is that it’s been crafted from vintage bandanas. Not replicas, but actual vintage bandanas, that have been sewn together in the traditional Japanese practice of boro patchwork to create the shirt and jacket in the collection.

The jacket, modelled after a style the label sold in Japan about 15 years ago (now only found in the collections of archivists and the lucky people who bagged it at the time), is a re-release. How long they’ll stay on the shelves this time is anyone’s guess, but these chances rarely happen twice…
