29 September 2022

While you were trying to fathom the idea that summer is now behind us and cautiously easing yourself back into work mode, it’s been a busy time for us at MR PORTER. September is a time of new beginnings and of reinvention, but it’s also a time of hard graft as we devise the smartest and most stylish ways to help you tackle the cold couple of months ahead.

Luckily, we’re not alone in this task. Helping us in this task are a crack team of some of the finest menswear brands in the world. All known for fine fabrics, superior craftsmanship and exacting details, we’ve put together six of them – including TOM FORD, Stone Island and Loro Piana, among others – that you should have on rotation as we head back into autumn. Ready to future-proof your wardrobe? You’ve come to the right place.

01.

Brunello Cucinelli

If you wish to master the style of Italy’s best-dressed men – and you should – then Brunello Cucinelli might just be the best place to start. Headquartered in Solomeo, a small medieval hamlet in the Umbria region of Italy, the brand is an expression of its founder’s vision for humanistic capitalism, whereby each collection is produced in harmony with nature, ethics and human dignity. Its designs, now synonymous with so-called “slow luxury”, rely on the finest materials and smart, functional details that are intended to transcend seasons. Some of our highlights from the brand’s latest collection include its sumptuous cashmere knits, luxurious sweats, and this bomber jacket.

02.

Loro Piana

You may be familiar with Loro Piana for its prized baby cashmere (expertly hand-sourced in Mongolia from Capra hircus goat kids), but the brand’s expertise extends far beyond its covetable knitwear. Its functional designs, made using the highest-quality fabrics and treated with a series of proprietary technologies intended to protect the fibres from the elements, are just as enticing and help the brand maintain its reputation as the pinnacle of Italian luxury.

03.

Stone Island

Once the go-to brand among Madchester ravers and football casuals, Mr Massimo Osti’s Stone Island is considered one of the most culturally relevant brands in today’s menswear scene. Crucially, though, it’s more than just a badge. Its collections – driven by innovative textile research and pioneering dye experimentation – bring streetwear and workwear influences together, resulting in a mash-up of colourful designs that include signature garment-dyed sweats, tees, technical outerwear and more.

04.

Canada Goose

The great outdoors are Canada Goose’s playground. The Canadian brand, in business for 65 years, has specialised in technical outerwear designed to withstand the harshest weather conditions since its inception. The success of its down-filled jackets (like this black Crofton puffer) has prompted the label to expand its offering to ready-to-wear, accessories and even footwear, a category which launched just last year with the Journey boot and this season includes the new Crofton fold-down puffer boot.

05.

TOM FORD

TOM FORD needs no introduction; the American powerhouse brand is responsible for some of the best formalwear around. But this isn’t your typical nine-to-five attire, with this season’s collection including velvet blazers, brocade tuxedos and Savile Row-inspired suiting, along with more laid-back designs, such as silk knits, sweats and suede jackets. Our highlight? This leather-trimmed blazer from the brand’s AW22 line-up.

06.

Polo Ralph Lauren

Be it the quintessentially American, preppy aesthetic, the exacting design standards or the ever-present equestrian-inspired logo, Polo Ralph Lauren manages to consistently make its way to the top of our Wish List. The brand’s signature piqué polo shirts are never out of style and have earned a reputation as one of the building blocks of the modern man’s wardrobe, but the brand’s more relaxed styles – tees and hoodies printed with the label’s Bear mascot, for instance – are also among our favourites.
