Three SS18 Pieces To Put A Spring In Your Step

26 January 2018

With January finally nearly over, it’s time for some fun.

Is it mere coincidence that today’s upload on MR PORTER is particularly substantial, and, not to put too fine a point on it, particularly full of fun? Perhaps. But, skimming over our latest new arrivals – which includes fresh SS18 product from the likes of Prada, Dries Van NotenValentino and Moncler – it feels like the great and good of the fashion industry are joining all of us in the MR PORTER offices in celebrating the end of January, which we can all agree is undoubtedly the most awful month of the year. Many of these creative, colourful pieces, in fact, are the perfect thing to help you shrug off the gloomy spirit of the winter and put yourself in a more sunshine-y mood. The weather might not quite have caught up yet, but it will, trust us, and with this selection, you’ll be more than ready for the good times when they come. Scroll down and, most importantly, enjoy the view.

If you like the designs of Mr Dries Van Noten, you’ll more than likely appreciate the exotic prints he scatters across them, too. But this season, the much-celebrated Belgian designer has offered us something of an upgrade: sequins. Yes, sequins. Before you fall off your seat in disbelief, consider the clever way in which he’s incorporated them into this shirt, as a pair of floral motifs that appear on either side of the chest, atop a vibrant paisley pattern. It’s almost like a rodeo in 1960s Carnaby Street, and in our humble opinion, the elegant juxtaposition of these two ideas just works. Pair it with something simple and relaxed (given the sparkles, you probably don’t need much else going on) such as these easy drawstring trousers from Japanese brand Camoshita.

What’s better than one of Los Angeles brand Amiri’s lovingly crafted, heavyweight cotton hoodies? Yes, you guessed it, the tie-dye version. We at MR PORTER are particularly keen on this sweater as it reminds us of Big Sur, California, where the crystal-stuffed roadside shops are full of (admittedly far inferior versions of) this kind of thing. (As well as books of poems by people who seem to have “found themselves” somewhere in the 10m radius.) Seeing as we can’t immediately jet off to this blissful location (which we would recommend by the way), the sweater is the next best thing. Wear it with some of Valentino’s freshly studded SS18 sneakers.

Depressed by the view from your rain-spattered office window this January? Then why not cheer yourself up (and everyone else to boot) by offering them a rather more appealing vista to gaze at, in the form of this Craig Green shirt. One of the standout pieces of the London designer’s SS18 collection, centred around the idea of a glorious utopia, this not only comes with an eye-catching appliqued design featuring a fantasy landscape, but is quilted in the designer’s trademark style, offering up a heady cocktail of colour and texture that it’s very hard not to be charmed by. Wear it as an overshirt, and add a bit of a grown-up streetwear feel to your look with a graphic print T-shirt from Prada.
