Meet Mr Christmas

11 December 2014

In the spirit of Rudolph and Frosty, MR PORTER unveils a modern yuletide icon to make you believe again.

Be honest. When was the last time you were genuinely excited to wake up on Christmas morning?

Chances are, you were still wearing Transformers pyjamas (“Derek Rose? Derek who?”), Boy George was pondering whether they knew it was Christmas time at all and you were gleefully looking forward to tearing the wrapping paper off the latest piece of now laughably obsolete tech. In other words, it was probably some time ago.

It’s a sad fact of life that as we get older, Christmas tends to lose some of its sparkle. Stories and songs that once seemed so magical become dulled through repetition. Santa transforms from a jolly old man into an out-of-work actor in a fat suit and a fake beard. Mr Bing Crosby’s long-awaited “White Christmas” never quite seems to materialise. All the while, the joy of the festive season fades further into obscurity, like some fast-receding memory.

At MR PORTER we firmly believe that Christmas shouldn’t just be for the kids, so we thought: what would it take to recapture that joy? What kind of story could we tell that would cut through all of the timeworn clichés and remind us of that sense of childlike excitement that saw us running down the stairs at first light as fast as our feet could carry us? MR PORTER presents the story of Mr Christmas: a festive fairy tale for the jaded generation.
