Recipizzles from Tha Doggfather’s kitchen (gin and juice included).
The irony of being asked who your dream dinner party guests would be – at a dinner party, no less – is not lost on us. Clearly, famous dead men such as Messrs Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, Jesus Christ and Barry Chuckle would have a better answer when posed the same bloody question at said dream dinner party. And while the repartee of the people in the room during the meal is a hot topic, surely who cooked the food itself should be more of a primary concern?
But rather than ask whom of the 108.2 billion people ever to live you’d want to serve up your supper, we thought we’d narrow the field a little: which figure from the world of hip-hop would you let loose in the kitchen? No doubt the Wu-Tang Clan’s Raekwon isn’t known as “The Chef” for nothing, while Ghostface Killah often pens bars of rap that read more like recipes. MF Doom, too, released an entire album about comfort food. And where, back in 2003, Kelis boasted of her milkshake bringing all the boys to the yard, three years later she started training as an actual saucier, eventually graduating from Le Cordon Bleu culinary school. But the one rapper to earn the praise of Ms Martha Stewart is none other than Mr Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr, who is better known by the handle Snoop Dogg, with the American cooking OG providing the foreword to Tha Doggfather’s new cookbook.
That’s right, cookbook. Now, we know what you’re thinking: no, that one key ingredient you’d expect to be at the core of anything edible to come out of Snoop’s galley – namely, cannabis – is notable by its absence. However, many of the 50 recipes on offer clearly cater to those who may have imbibed the chronic. Culinary delights such as mac ’n’ cheese, “Baby Got Back” ribs and “Bow Wow” brownies will no doubt go some way to sating the munchies (the book suggests, before serving, you make sure the latter are “nicely baked”).
One piece of advice, though, if attempting any of the fizzle in this compendium: best not drop it like it’s hot.
