Were you dressing for Wimbledon, Glastonbury or even Fête de la Musique last month? Not to mention the menswear shows of Milan, Paris and Florence. Wherever the past month took you, the one thing no doubt dictating your wardrobe decisions was the temperature. It can be difficult to know what to wear in a heatwave. And while we had a good stab at answering this conundrum ourselves, other opinions are available. Take the guys featured below. Summer might mean fewer items of clothing, but these men knew how to make them count – and not a divisive flip-flop in sight.
01. Pharrell Williams

What do they say? Minimum effort, maximum results. If there was ever a look to reflect this maxim, Pharrell Williams’ Roland Garros getup would surely be it. Effort aside, though, picking a luxe leather jacket and du jour bootcut jeans was enough for the 52-year-old creative director to stand out among the uber stylish tennis crowd. The accessories were ace, too – a no less considered mix and match of gold jewellery, a Richard Mille watch and a croc leather bag.
02. Damson Idris

If you’re dreading the thought of wearing tailoring in summer, just hear us out. A well put-together suit has the potential to be the easiest, coolest thing in your warm-weather wardrobe. Plus, you could follow Damson Idris’ lead by choosing lighter colours and even lighter materials. When it comes to what to wear under a suit, this is also one of the few occasions where a bare chest is sartorially appropriate – outside of a swimming pool. Make the most of it, if you can.
03. Simon Porte Jacquemus

Few people do summer dressing better than Simon Porte Jacquemus. Not just with his eponymous brand, that offers up the perfect vacation wardrobe, but also with his personal sense of style. Those who follow his sun-drenched feed will know that there’s nothing more fitting than a striped marinière, some easy lightweight trousers and summer’s It footwear, the boat shoe. And whether you’re going to the beach or to the office, a spacious yet refined bag will always come in handy.
04. Stormzy

Tonal dressing is like a cheat code for seeming like you know what you’re doing with your wardrobe. And it couldn’t be easier – most of us tend to find ourselves repeat-buying pieces in similar shades, so why not wear them together? Blacks and blues are the colours most men have an abundance of, but here Stormzy makes a strong case for an olive green. Sure, a lot of figures have previously stood their ground in military fatigues, but the British rapper presents an elevated take, with a collared shirt featuring hidden buttons, the gleam of a wristwatch and black dress shoes. Serious ordinance.
05. S.pri Noir

Perhaps betraying his age, the French rapper S.Pri Noir transplanted his stage name directly from his old MSN Messenger handle. And while Microsoft ended its support of this platform many years ago, his wardrobe has had a recent update, installed by AMIRI. The LA brand has been a fixture of Paris Fashion Week for most of the 11 years it has been around and has a firm grasp of the city – and the season. This cheery yellow is a shade you’ll be seeing a lot of over summer and partners well with the cream trousers and sneakers. Download now for bug fixes and improved performance.
06. Fai Khadra

We’ve recently put together a grown man’s guide to wearing shorts – and if there was an outfit to sum it up, Fai Khadra’s would be it. Suited to everyday wear, a pair of wide-leg cargo shorts can be easily dressed up with a striped button-up and a sharp suede blouson. That has grown-up all over it, but the slim, low-profile sneakers reveal a healthy dose of playful verve.
07. “Bright” Vachirawit Chivaaree

The Thai actor, singer and entrepreneur Vachirawit Chivaaree isn’t just a big presence on the global stage (see his staggering Instagram following). His ability to make any outfit look considerably sharper has earnt him ambassador status with the likes of Burberry and adidas, but he’s clearly on other brand’s radars. Here, he appears at AMI PARIS’ recent show, in an ample double-breasted jacket and loose trousers that add volume without engulfing the wearer, while the palette of sand, pink and burgundy offer a touch of drama – something that someone with his acting resumé would know about.
