See who’s serving up the best style at the tennis this summer.

Although we witnessed one of the best tennis matches in recent memory yesterday, the exploits of Messrs Rafael Nadal and Gilles Müller are not currently the point of discussion in the MR PORTER offices when it comes to Wimbledon. Instead, in a rather shallow fashion, we are looking to the stands and seeing what the punters are wearing. But you can’t blame us. It’s far less taxing. Especially when they look this good. From Mr David Beckham to Mr Spike Lee – here are four smart summer outfits we thought were truly ace this tournament. Sorry. Like we said, we’re not to be trusted with the technicalities of the sport…

Although Wimbledon relaxed its dress code in around 2014, it hasn’t stopped some attendees wishing to uphold the traditions of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, which was founded in 1868. You won’t find Mr David Beckham indulging in collarless shirts and sneakers – which members are now allowed to wear. Instead, pictured here enjoying the tennis with his mother, he looks fit for the Royal Box in an immaculate navy blazer, chinos, a striped shirt and a tie replete with a tie bar. Which is a vast improvement from his appearance at Mr Ed Sheeran’s Glastonbury performance – where he looked a little tired and emotional.

Judging from the decidedly mixed reactions of the spectators pictured here, it’s not entirely clear what’s going on in the tennis. The outfits, however, are more straightforward: both writer Mr Derek Blasberg and actor Mr Douglas Booth have opted for tailoring in light, summery shades – a smart choice for Wimbledon in the heat, and a way to stand out a little. The more formal, sandwiches-with-the-crusts-cut-off look works well for Mr Blasberg, who pulls off his cream blazer by sticking to various shades of blue in the rest of his outfit. Mr Booth, meanwhile, successfully displays a more rakish look by foregoing a tie and undoing the first two buttons of his shirt. Well played.

Though Mr Spike Lee is widely celebrated as a director of film, he’s also a rather famous wearer of caps. Often these are of the flat or sports-team variety, but he seems to have made a generous exception for Wimbledon with this white number, and even gone so far as to pair it with a nice blue blazer (he usually goes for something a sportier and/or technical). The result is one of our favourite Mr Spike Lee outfits of recent times – a palette perfect for Centre Court, pulled off with the attitude (and fun sunglasses) you might expect from the director of Do The Right Thing. Kudos to Mr Lee for flouting the rules in his own, tasteful way.
