The best pieces from the MR PORTER sale.

If you haven’t had a chance to look at the MR PORTER sale yet, we do sympathise. We’re well aware that, at this time of year, inboxes are filling up with all sorts of dazzling offers and you’re probably more concerned about whether you joined the right gym than whether you’ve got all the clothing you need for the rest of the winter. However, we also feel it our solemn duty to point out to you that, as of today, many of our sale items are now at 70 per cent off and so, if there are any wardrobe gaps you need to fill before spring kicks in properly, you’d be well advised to do so now. To help you out, we’ve compiled a few of our favourite (and most vastly reduced) pieces from the current selection, focusing in particular on items that are versatile enough to wear throughout the year. Don’t wait around, scroll down – these aren’t likely to hang about long.

Here at MR PORTER we are always attracted by brands that offer timelessness and versatility. So let us dwell for a moment on two of them. LA’s Simon Miller, established by its namesake in 2008 and now designed by the duo of Mr Daniel Corrigan and Chelsea Hansford, is all about combining the style of the American Southwest with the quality of Japanese fabrication, the resulting aesthetic being exemplified by this lightweight coach jacket. Milan’s Aspesi has long been a favourite of fashion insiders, who appreciate such well-made, utilitarian pieces as the above beige chinos (which come with extra-large pockets for a workwear feel). What makes these particularly compelling designers to shop during sale season is the seasonless quality of such pieces – trends do move on year on year, but these classic casual shapes will always be in style, so picking them up at 70 per cent off is something of a no-brainer.

Jeans are often a measure of the current mood in fashion, and every so often a brand comes along with a pair that really captures the zeitgeist. So it was with Dior Homme’s skinny jeans in the mid-2000s. So it was, later, with Balmain’s eye-wateringly expensive ripped and distressed variations. Now, in the mid-2010s, it’s seemingly all about Vetements and its cleverly deconstructed-reconstructed jeans (recognisable by the asymmetric, panelled hem at the leg opening) lovingly recreated from vintage Levi’s. Of course, as is the way with such things, they’re rather pricy. But if ever was the time to invest in this must-have piece, it’s now – we still have a few pairs of the classic black variety (albeit in the smaller sizes) which are now as heavily reduced as they’re going to get.

You can think of Mr Tom Ford’s menswear collection as a sort of greatest hits of male style. In each piece, the famed designer does his utmost to create the ultimate incarnation of a classic (and essential piece), a fact that is plain to see in his sublime denim jacket, expertly cut in Japanese selvedge denim. This might be a contentious suggestion, but we at MR PORTER consider this one of the very best denim jackets out there, so at 70 per cent off it’s currently a particularly fantastic investment for those who take a size L and above. Such is the versatility of this piece, which has a comfortable, relaxed cut and is gently washed for optimum comfort, that you can wear it with anything. But if you’re looking for another bargain to sling into your basket, you could do worse than pair it with this tactile sweater from our own Kingsman range, which is rendered in a linen-wool mix to make it feel especially smooth next to the skin.
