THE JOURNAL

Going somewhere? Here’s why, when it comes to travelling, the new Eastpak bag collection will take you further.
If you’re preparing for a city break, the last thing you want to worry about is your luggage. You should be busy making plans and organising logistics – whether that be with a taxi driver for your airport pick-up, or a restaurant for those all-important dinner plans. What’s more, when you’re ready to pack, you’re far more likely to be concerned with the contents of your bag, rather than the bag itself. Indeed, in the grand scheme of things, luggage often gets forgotten. But we think it’s rather important – especially in a professional context. If you mean business, so should your luggage.
Why are we talking about this now? Because, for your next trip – whether it be for business or pleasure – Eastpak has got you well and truly covered. In the baggage department, that is. The expert travel brand, founded in 1952, has released a new set of luggage, the Constructed Collection, which promises to kit out the modern professional gentleman traveller with everything he needs to carry off a successful trip. In one fell swoop.
We already stock Eastpak on MR PORTER, so we are well accustomed to its sturdy, high-quality and voluminous luggage. It has experience as the manufacturer of military-issue packs and duffels for the US Army – so its standards are rather high. And you can take our word for it. We are acquainted with the brand’s indestructible Tranzshell Multiwheel, for example, perfect for long-haul travel. And its casual canvas backpacks, too, for day-to-day use. But the new Constructed Collection channels Eastpak’s travel knowhow into a city-focused range, specifically for the busy traveller.

How so? First, consider the colourway. Serious and subdued (if you can count arctic camo print rucksack as subdued, that is) – this is luggage designed to get you into and out of your urban destination with professionalism and ease. And what about the materials? Think: strong nylon exteriors, leather trims, and industrial metal hardware.
Eastpak knows that city trips are not always bathed in sunshine, and your time away might be more a case of meetings at dawn rather than mojitos at dusk. So, in the Constructed range, the Padded Pak’r comes with showerproof ballistic nylon, and a metallic camouflage design to help you blend in with your surroundings. If you need something a little more practical, try the Dokit – with its detachable, adjustable strap and capacious storage. This will slip from airport lounge to meeting to gym (should you so desire) with ease.
Alternatively, you might require the simplicity and comfort of a messenger bag. If you need to carry your belongings through a city with minimum fuss, and prefer the security of having your valuables right by your side – The One, er, is the one, in this case.

You may require something a bit more heavy duty (but no less transportable) on your travels, of course. So, perhaps you might be interested in the Constructed Collection Tranverz pieces, which are larger, portable pieces of luggage on slick wheeling systems. Not forgetting a rubberised, telescopic handle for extra comfort. These range from compact to roomy, but whether you plump for the S, M or L – they will all have compression straps to keep your belongings intact as well as organized interiors. Sorted.
But the Constructed Collection is useless if you don’t have some suitably stylish belongings to put inside of your new city-ready baggage. So, what’ll it be? Perhaps a smart new suit, built for travel? Or how about a pen, and notebook for making those all-important notes? Shop these, and the Constructed Collection, below. Now all you need to do is book your flight…
