The pieces we don’t really need, but we really want.

Shopping for clothes is not always about balance, or logic, or common sense. Sometimes, it can be chaotic and impractical. It is with this in mind that we approached today’s What’s New upload – filled as it is with little gems that, appealing though they are, don’t necessarily amount to a cogent collective whole. Or a reasonable outfit, if you will. Take the Burberry stretch cotton-blend socks shown below. Do we need intarsia socks? Absolutely not. But do we want these and are they on our Wish List? Yes, very much so. But if fancy socks aren’t your thing, perhaps pink T-shirts are? The one by Freemans Sporting Club certainly caught our eye, even if we can’t immediately find a place for it in our wardrobe. And the same goes for the Slam camp-collar shirt by Hartford. But that won’t stop us coveting and, eventually, buying it. Summer’s around the corner after all, we tell ourselves, as rain falls in London.

And how about the nylon bag by Junya Watanabe? We’re almost definitely too old for “chest rigs”, but, well, we just might give it a go. Why not? Or maybe we should stay on terra firma with some seersucker suit trousers by P. Johnson, but even these are extravagant in their own way. Again: are they necessary? No, but they are rather lovely.
