THE JOURNAL

Here at MR PORTER, spring style is a pretty big deal. But since we’re still more than a month away from the long-awaited turn of the season, we’re looking for ways to liven up our wardrobe and dress for the season we’re in, rather than for the one we want.
Luckily, LOEWE has a similar approach. For SS24, the Spanish powerhouse encourages us to challenge our layering prowess and play with volumes and textures. Its latest collection is a study of perspective, culminating in an exploration of proportions and tactile fabrics that is as unexpected as we’ve come to expect from creative director Mr Jonathan Anderson.

Eternal wardrobe classics such as blazers, coats, shirts, polo shirts and jeans are given a subtle twist with pinstripes and distorted patterns, or otherwise more candidly altered and adapted with crystals and sharply structural cuts. Elsewhere, bags are reimagined in XL sizes, while Derby shoes, loafers and Chelsea boots are updated with asymmetric, round-toe shapes, signalling changes afoot – spring style is all about a renewed sense of playful balance, after all.
Amid a multitude of wearable staples packed with character and considered craftsmanship, here are the seven that stood out.
01. The shearling blazer

Thought a blazer couldn’t possibly be one of the most warming jackets in your sartorial arsenal? Think again. This LOEWE notch-lapel, three-button jacket has been made in Italy from cognac-hued, semi-curly lambskin shearling, which gives it an uber soft feel.
02. The embellished dark jeans

For SS24, LOEWE has taken your favourite dark-wash baggy jeans and embellished them with hundreds of glistening crystals. How’s that for a twist on a classic? The exaggerated high-rise silhouette is ideal for pairing with tucked-in tank tops and shorter tees – or the brand’s cropped argyle knit.
03. The chunky sweater

You heard it here (or on LOEWE’s catwalk) first – red is the colour of the season. So why not invest in the brand’s fisherman half-zip sweater? The chunky handle and thick ribbing allows you to wear it over a finer knit in place of a lightweight jacket, too.
04. The argyle sweater

Nothing says reinvented classic quite like LOEWE’s argyle knit. Designed for a cropped fit, it’s woven with two overlapping diamond patterns in a fresh colour palette of ivory, purple and pale yellow, brown and black.
05. The crystal jeans

LOEWE’s high-rise jeans are designed to be worn with one of the brand’s cropped knits – or any short-length tank, gilet or shirt you already own. Look closely, and you’ll notice they’re covered in scores of crystals that will catch the light beautifully.
06. The XL tote bag

When it comes to LOEWE’s coveted accessories, luxury truly lies in the details. Look no further than this XL tote bag for proof. Crafted from the brand’s prized leather in an endlessly wearable black colourway, it’s designed to fold completely flat, so you can pack it in your luggage with ease.
07. The suede loafers

You’d have to have been living under a rock not to have realised that loafers are still the hottest thing a man – or woman, for that matter – can wear on his feet right now. This LOEWE pair is worth your attention for a couple of reasons. The asymmetric toecaps have Jonathan Anderson’s fingerprints all-over them. Plus, the tobacco suede they are made from is sure to get even better with frequent wear.
