THE JOURNAL

Summer really is the time to shine. Hence we’re putting the spotlight on some of the best and most exciting jewellery currently available for men. We invited some of the world’s most sought-after jewellery designers for their input, and we’re delighted to say that not only did they say yes, but many of them created pieces exclusively for us.
Check out the full lowdown on the new collections here, where MR PORTER’s Senior Buyer for Fine Jewellery Mr Maxim De Turckheim breaks down four of the key trends defining men’s jewellery right now. Here, though, we’re taking a closer look at some of the exclusive pieces you can check out – and buy – only at MR PORTER.
01.
Jacquie Aiche

“The pieces I design are meant to be more than just fine jewellery,” Ms Jacquie Aiche told MR PORTER last year. “They are incredibly personal and sacred amulets.” The designer’s indigenous American ancestry plays a part in her creations, which incorporate healing stones and depictions of thunderbirds – “an ancient symbol… about personal power and inner strength”, she told us.
But it’s not just her own identity that inspires her design process. This is jewellery designed to connect to the wearer, too, with a wide variety of charms and colourful stones, from lapis and turquoise to tourmaline, tanzanite and chrysocolla, offering something for everyone.
Jacquie Aiche contributes 11 pieces, seven of which are exclusively available on MR PORTER. These include white-gold and yellow-gold pendant necklaces encrusted with diamond crosses, set with intricately carved malachite charms and engraved with positive, empowering messages.
02.
Sydney Evan

Fine jewellery brand Sydney Evan channels the feelgood spirit of founder Ms Rosanne Karmes’ native Los Angeles with 14k gold, precious stones, colour-pop beads and an array of quirky charms. Featuring bedazzled smiley faces, toadstools, horseshoes and hemp leaves, this is deeply symbolic jewellery with a cool, contemporary aesthetic: think of it as a set of tools for exploring your own personal style.
The emblematic power of jewellery to ward off evil or to promote positive energy features heavily in Sydney Evan’s six-piece collection, with Evil Eye pendants in diamond-encrusted white gold, beaded bracelets set with Hindu Om charms, and white-gold pendant necklaces depicting the Hamsa hand, an ancient Middle Eastern talisman thought to bring luck and happiness.
03.
Lito

Lito – the eponymous jewellery brand of Ms Lito Karakostanoglou – brings a fully exclusive range of six pieces, including the striking Grand Vert signet ring you can see peering out from the middle of the image at the top of this page.
More than statement jewellery, it’s also an example of Lito’s dedication to working with only the finest craftspeople: the diamond-set golden ring is handcrafted in the company atelier in Athens, while the enamelled green eye is hand-painted by a skilled artisan in rural Russia.
It’s not the only eye-catching piece of jewellery in Lito’s contribution. Other highlights include a Siren bangle in 14k yellow gold and a scarab beetle pendant necklace carved from deep-red jasper quartz and set on a tonal red cord.
04.
Elhanati

Danish jewellery brand and MR PORTER favourite Elhanati offers a stellar six-piece collection that spotlights the designer’s signature gold-working techniques, which involve dropping and hammering recycled 18k gold to give the precious metal an organic, uniquely textured finish.
Don’t miss the brand’s mezuzah gold, hammered flat to replicate the appearance of parchment paper and strung on beaded bracelets of malachite, lapis lazuli and spinel, and our personal highlight from the collection, the multi-cord stone necklace with a sun pendant crafted from yet more of that gorgeously textured gold.
05.
Carolina Bucci

Fourth-generation Florentine jewellery designer Ms Carolina Bucci is best known for her wildly popular line of Forte beads, which have helped to shift perception of beaded jewellery away from its folksy, home-made image and towards something altogether more elevated and luxurious. She achieves this in two ways: through the ample use of colourful stones, extravagantly bejewelled charms, and finishing touches such as woven-silk bracelets tipped with white gold and other precious metals; and through the application of highly skilled craftsmanship. All her jewellery is handmade in the family’s workshops near the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, Italy.
Unsurprisingly, then, it’s beads that make up the majority of Carolina Bucci’s contributions to our exclusive edit. Don’t miss the Protection Forte Beads bracelet, which features an 18k gold charm engraved with an Evil Eye, a recurring motif across the collections. Or our personal favourite, the Travel bracelet, which is strung with sunshine-yellow beads and a gold palm-tree charm.
06.
Duffy Jewellery

Working out of an atelier in Swanfield Street, east London, Duffy Jewellery is a small-batch operation that prides itself in doing things exclusively by hand, working with traditional handcrafting techniques such as engraving and inlaying to create beautiful, unique pieces. Its Zodiac pendants, featuring discs of 18k white and yellow gold delicately engraved with astrological symbols, are a big favourite in the MR PORTER headquarters (and make excellent birthday gifts).
Duffy Jewellery has created a small collection of pieces exclusively for MR PORTER, which includes a beautiful 14k gold tourmaline and abalone ring and a selection of pendants inlaid with eye-catching iridescent shell.
07.
Suzanne Kalan

A Californian fine jewellery brand with Armenian roots – its founder was born in Lebanon to Armenian parents – Suzanne Kalan is best known for its colourful baguette-cut gemstones, which are strung from pendants and stacked around rings and tennis bracelets.
For us, the designer experiments with a particularly lucid sea-green variety of chalcedony, a form of silicate quartz, to create a series of striking jewellery pieces. We’re particularly excited about getting our hands on the gold, chalcedony and diamond necklace – it’s a bold statement piece that’d look great against a simple white T-shirt or open-neck shirt.
08.
Yvonne Léon

Bold colours are one of Ms Yvonne Léon’s calling cards, so it’s no surprise to see the Parisian jewellery designer applying plenty of them to the three MR PORTER-exclusive pieces she has created for us. Titled “Symbolic Motives”, the collection’s signet ring, pendant necklace and bracelet are all inlaid with vivid turquoise stone and set with shapes that have a symbolic meaning – a fish, a crescent moon, a palm tree and a sun. In the case of the signet ring, the golden sun in the centre of the ring is set with gleaming citrine gemstones.
