Why We Love Valextra

Three chic pieces from the Italian leather experts for transporting your essentials around in style.

It is easy to think of a case for keeping valuables safe as secondary – an absent-minded consideration in comparison to its precious cargo. But when you consider that iPads don’t age all too well (a new one has probably come out since you started reading this) and, well, there’s nothing becoming about wafting your credit cards around – there’s no harm in wanting the cover that you put these essential items in to be hardwearing, timeless and, of course, handsome. Founded in Milan in 1937, Valextra takes its leather goods extremely seriously. All of its pieces are handmade, and the skills and expertise required to make them are handed down from generation to generation. And whether you’re carrying your shades or those all-important business documents, the brand likes to help you keep things safe in style. Don’t take our word for it, though – take a look at these three pieces, new on site today.

If you’re anything like us, you’ll get through sunglasses at a frightening rate. If you don’t sit on them, or lend them to a “friend” on a night out, then you’ll leave them on a plane after a couple of in-flight gin and tonics on the way to your holiday – or drop them in the ocean when you get there. Indeed, there are myriad ways to lose your trendy shades, so put them in something that will at least make it a bit more of a challenge. The benefits of this Valextra case are twofold. First: the leather is so supple and fine that you won’t want to let go of it, never mind the prized possession it holds. Secondly: its brilliantly bright hue means it will be extremely difficult to lose track of, even in poor light.

For those whose offices demand smart attire, sauntering into work with a backpack over your shoulder just won’t do. Slim, subtle and made with pebble-grain leather and brushed silver, this portfolio case is a sophisticated and sleek alternative in which to haul your things about. In this case, said “things” might be files, pens or even that trusty iPad – this nifty portfolio has a sleeve or compartment to secure them all.

Most of us prefer a trimmer fit when it comes to trousers and jeans and, even with lightweight phones these days, pockets can get a rather full and a bit heavy – especially when you throw a wallet into the mix. That is, unless you choose to carry your money (cards, that is – not much space for jangling coins here) around in this elegant, super-slim cardholder, complete with brick-coloured pebble-grain leather and lacquered black piping. With time, the leather will age to develop a pleasing patina that will only increase your attachment to it. And who knows – you may end up passing it on to a member of the next generation of style aficionados.
