The Timely Update To The IWC Schaffhausen Petit Prince Pilot Watch

The new version of the legendary timepiece has just landed.

Children’s stories and fine watches may have little in common superficially, but for IWC Schaffhausen’s Pilot watch and the 1943 French novella Le Petit Prince, there’s an element of reverence that ties the two together. Of course, Mr Antoine de-Saint Exupéry’s masterpiece isn’t just a tale for kids – it has been translated into hundreds of languages over the seven decades since it was written, and is one of the best-selling books to have ever been published. IWC Schaffhausen, on the other hand, is one of the world’s finest watchmakers, and is known for its expertise in creating timepieces that marry technical mastery with elevated taste. And, of course, as a pilot as well as a writer himself, Mr Saint Exupéry would have found such a timepiece essential.

Engraved with an original illustration of Le Petit Prince on the back, the models come with or without chronographs, and are rendered in stainless steel and sapphire glass to keep them as timeless as the story. The brand’s Pilot watch has hitherto had straps in leather or steel, so the webbing straps make for a subtly casual (but still sharp) point of difference. The Swiss watchmaker has also released two new iterations of the series, which come with grey or navy webbing that will complement a smart shirt.
